I always wondered why fans could never meet Marvel characters at other places outside of the Disney and Universal theme parks? Because I find it shocking that you can only meet Marvel characters now at Disney and Universal theme parks and Marvel should promote the Marvel characters more in other places. It used to be that fans could meet and greet with Marvel characters at grand openings of stores such as Target Walmart and Kmart and even at comic book stores and bookstores and it used to be fun. But I think this is one thing that Marvel got rid of when Disney bought Marvel because it used to be Marvel character meet and greets were huge events in the 80's and 90's when the stores would release new Marvel action figures and Marvel would have the characters also do meet and greets at shopping malls. If they were to bring these events back to malls and comic book shops i'm sure fans would go wild at these events

I remember when before Disney bought them Marvel used to have the Marvel characters do meet and greets at toy stores when new Marvel action figures debuted at toy stores and kids loved it and it was great for the stores and Marvel to do to promote the action figures and comics. I wonder why Marvel doesn't have these meet and greets at stores anymore and instead have to go to Disneyland to meet the Marvel characters or to Universal Studios Florida to see them. I think Marvel should have the characters do meet and greets at malls and comic book shops and it would bring lots of fans and make huge money to malls and comic book shops

Malls are dying and comic book stores are nowhere as numerous as they were years ago. There is NO money to be made by parading around characters outside the parks and neither Disney or Universal would want the publicity if a 'bad actor' in costume decided to do something awful to a fan.

If you want to meet them, then pony up the money to go to the parks or go to a comic-con and pay to meet the actors who portray them.

Does Disney do this with any of their characters? Yes, you see Disney princesses at some event but I think most of these are un-official. The main exception is Star Wars, but these are mainly provided by fan groups like the 501st but with Disney's blessing.

My dad and I were discussing this subject today and in his eyes Marvel should promote the Marvel superheroes more by having them do meet and greets at special events and not just meeting the Marvel superheroes at Disney Parks. Because as I mentioned in my previous posts in this thread Marvel superhero meet and greets were big in the 80's and 90's and the reason why the stores used Marvel meet and greets very much the same way Barbie herself did meet and greets for Mattel to promote Barbie dolls and with Marvel the superhero meet and greets were used to promote new Marvel toys and action figures at stores like Walmart Children's Palace Child World Target Kmart and other stores and it was a smart idea. But since Universal Studios Florida and Disney started doing Marvel meet and greets at their theme parks the Marvel meet and greets at stores "mainly at grand openings of stores like Target" vanished without a trace. But stores should revive Marvel superhero meet and greets sponsored by Hasbro to promote new Hasbro Marvel Legends action figures and it would be huge for the stores to do

Yeah unfortunately the world just gets more focused on the bottom line and cutting costs everywhere, and it gets more progressive with time. There's no money in paying 2 or 3 actors to do a meet and greet at a store as a way to sell $25 action figures. The cost to have a few characters just for 2 hours can easily be $500-$1000. That's a lot of figures or comics that you need to sell just to break even. Sure, you could argue that the long term value that is created by creating memories for kids that result in making them lifetime Marvel fans (read: customers) may offset the short term losses, but that's not how the world works anymore. If there isn't a return on investment THIS QUARTER, then rest assured the bean counters aren't letting it happen.

I'm not saying either method of thinking is correct or wrong, but it's easy to see why it doesn't happen.

Also, Feld Entertainment used to (maybe still does?) Marvel Universe Live! which was/is an arena show that features a lot of Marvel heroes. Think Disney on Ice, but instead of ice skating it's stunts with dirtbikes, pyrotechnics, etc. I saw it several years ago. It was pretty cool, but definitely a one and done.

They still do it, though it's a new show vs 2017. Clips are on YouTube.

Disney didn't own Marvel in the 80s or 90s so what they did then is irrelevant at this point. Disney has full control over when and where the characters are used (outside of the stipulation with Universal).

You may still see them at a small comic book store somewhere, but that really would have nothing to do with Disney and would be like one of those princess parties companies that call them "Ice Princess" or something instead of "Elsa" so they don't get sued.

Probably hard to find people that look like superheroes, and if they did, they wouldn't likely be willing to work at a park with a bunch of screaming kids for what Disney is willing to pay.
