I always get nervous before going to DL

When I was a kid we lived on the east coast, so went to WDW 4 times. After moving to California, I've gone to DL 6 times now. Number 7 is coming up next week.

Disney has consistently been such a magical vacation destination for me, as it is for so many others. Each trip has been terrific.

So now to be honest, I do get a bit nervous when I plan a trip to Disney. What if this is that one time I get stuck on a broken ride, encounter rude castmembers, get a dirty room at the resort, whatever, and the magic ends? Hasn't happened yet, so hopefully I'm not jinxing myself...

Anyone ever feel this way?

If you're the main planner for the trip, that's natural. I'm always worried that a ride will be done, the moat will be drained, a parade or fireworks show will be cancelled, I won't get a good viewing spot for Fantasmic! or WOC... and that one of these happening will ruin the vacation for my kids or me.

Of course, these things do happen. And while they're disappointing, at the time, no one walks away saying they had a bad vacation. I think we get to this point, probably because of all the over-planning these boards lead us to do, that we expect the trip to be perfect, flawless, because how could it not be with all the knowledge we've gained here. Yet there's always going to be a fly in the ointment somewhere along the way, and if it's a normal vacation, a whole swarm. I've tried to overcome the same feelings, but to no avail. It probably means I'm OCD or have some other brain disorder. But that's what makes our trips better than all the others - because we're awesome!!! :thumbsup2 And maybe a little crazy :joker:

For me I have my upcoming 3rd Family trip. I do get nervous but for different reasons, for me is more: Have I catch up on whats new at DL? Am I ready to make the schedule? Is it going to be too crowded?

So I read and read Disboards a month or so before my next trip and hey here I am, trying to catch up!

There is really not a lot that could happen that I feel I would lose the magic! A ride down (oh well, onto the next one), crowds (more time with my children in line that they have to talk to me :rotfl2:), fireworks cancelled (a swim in the pool instead), rude cast members (be extra nice and throw some magic their way instead!).

I guess as a Mom of 4, I have learned to go with the flow and change plans on a moments notice. I never set expectations to have the perfect vacation, just a fun one!!

Whatever happens you will have a magical time!

I have been going since 1976. I was 3.
DLR is the 1 place on earth I feel absolutely relaxed and at home. I LOVE it that much.
Relax its the Happiest Place on Earth, like no other!!:)
Walt did it right!

We have been going to each WDW and DL once a year for the last several years. In those times we have been stuck on a broken ride (the small world song was in my head for days after half an hour being stuck in the ride), encountered a rude castmember, and gotten a dirty room at a WDW resort. The magic is still there! Try to relax!

This last summer for some reason I couldn't seem to get excited before our DL trip. Maybe because it was going to be in July and I was picturing huge crowds and long lines. I just kept thinking it probably wasn't going to be a good as our other trips. It was an absolutely fantastic trip. Lots of special moments and firsts, and the crowd was not bad at all.

The most aprehensive I have ever been was before our last trip to WDW with the new FP+ and MBs. Yes, we had glitches and yes, I pretty much despise FP+, but we still had a fun trip. In fact, I am surprisingly finding myself excited about our next trip, even though I know I can't stand FP+. Sure, you might have a bad moment here or there on a trip, but there is so much good at Disney it will most likely still be a great trip!

All this happened to us, too, (although it was forty minutes of 'Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me!) and we still had a fabulous time! We always do!

I can relate to being worried because I've already had my "bad" trip where I didn't quite feel the magic and thankfully it was only that one trip. I've been back several times since then (going again in 2 days :cool1:) and it's still my happy place and the magic is definitely still there.

I don't know if I was sick, tired or just grumpy but I had a trip in April that just felt off rather than magical, I still had fun but I was so over the crowds and lines by my last day I ended up leaving the parks early and remember being very worried driving home that I had lost the magic. I have an AP and went back about a month later and had an amazing trip, same with June and July. This weekend will be my 4th trip back since April and I'm so excited I feel like a little kid the night before Christmas, I can't wait!

Don't worry, the magic is still there even if you can't quite find it one day. I get tense in crowds and Disneyland can be overwhelming some days, I've found a trip around the rivers of America on the canoes fixes everything. It rarely has a line, the atmosphere is beautiful, the CMs are always great, and it's a great escape from the crowds while still screaming Disneyland. Relax, it's Disney!

For me at least, it's not so much as losing the magic, versus burned out of going to DL. After my last solo trip, I decided I wanted the family to visit WDW before heading back to DL again. DH agreed after discovering that it wouldn't cost alot more to travel to WDW instead of DL. So I'm currently saving for 2 trips in 2017. The first trip is in Jan/17 to WDW followed by one of my rare solo trips to DL later that year. I'm still in the process of deciding between Oct or Nov/17 for my solo DL trip. Every 3 to 4 years I take a solo trip to DL. Usually to DL as I feel safe travelling there solo.

Being stuck on a broken ride can be a lot of fun, too, or at least interesting. You might get to see backstage (i.e. inside the Space Mountain dome, or walked out through the actual Pirates or Splash Mountain sets) and you'll always get one or a couple of "anywhere" fastpasses, too. It's actually a mark of Disneyland fandom, I think ;)

I'm with "yukonmommy", when we used to travel with the 4 children Jack and I would worry more about how much fun they were having, were they disappointed in a ride, firework show, a meal....but it never happened. They loved getting walked off rides, visiting with people in lines, ect. Now that it's just the two of us when we go....ITS WONDERFUL!! No real stress about that stuff. I just try not to forget to pack anything Jack can't do without.( he's needy)

We've been to DL roughly 12 times and I still get super nervous before we go. I'm pretty sure it's because I'm the planner...I book hotels, airfare, tickets and then plan our day in the parks. We always travel with either my sister and her family or my brother and his...so there's tons of pressure for everyone to have a perfect vacation and I feel that if something goes wrong, they'll all be mad at me. I know that they wouldn't be and never have been, but I can't help it. I'm usually the one having a meltdown soon after we get there because the stress is too much.

I just try my hardest to remember that everything will be fine and that we'll have a great time regardless of if my plans work out or not.

^ This!!

One time we got stuck on Alice in Wonderland & had to be evacuated after about 30 minutes. The CM gave us two fast passes for ANY ride, good for up to 6 people. And, the exit we went out dumped us right into the middle of a parade, which DD thought was awesome. :thumbsup2

Another time we got stuck on Pinocchio, in the little room at the very end with all the cute clocks & wood carvings. It was neat to see everything in there with the lights on. We took a bunch of pictures and got a close-up look at everything when we were walking out.

As long as you're not stuck out in the baking sun, getting stuck on rides is pretty cool.

I am the family planner and a worrier too, but the biggest thing I worry about is someone getting sick right before or during the trip. There is nothing you can do about it if it happens. I don't mind rescheduling, but if money has already been paid that is another story.

I can promise you that those things won't end the magic for you! We have had all of those things happen at one point or another. Not fun but not deal breakers!
But I do get what you are saying...for me I always worry about getting to Disneyland. We often take day trips, driving out the morning of our park visit and returning home the next day. I always worry about what will happen if we break down ect...we wont make it to the gates by opening! And even that has happened to us once and we survived and had fun. But I need something to stress over hehe!
Have a great time!

I think it's what you make of it.

My daughter and her friend got stuck on Splash at the top of the big drop. They had to be escorted out of the log and walked all the way down.
Highlight of the trip, they talk about it to this day.

We had a flawless trip a few weeks ago. It was just magical in every sense. No huge amount of obsessive planning, a real chill attitude. Of course I don't have little kids, I think that changes a lot. Little ones can really dictate how a trip is going.

Try not to worry. Just be flexible, take it all in stride. If you see smiles, you're winning ;)

I do get nervous, but it's a exciting nervous. Like oh my gosh I'm going to Disneyland again!! The thing that I get nervous about is if our hotel room is on the bottom floor and we have nosy and loud people above us.

Depending on the ride, if a ride breaks down I may get nervous. Last time I was in Disneyland, my mom and I got stuck on Soarin' Over California and our seats we up in the air. You know how they have gate 1, gate 2, gate 3? We were on gate 3 and our seats got stuck up in the air. It was so scary. But if I get stuck on one of the dark rides, oh well. I got stuck on Alice in Wonderland with my cousins and by brother once time. This was like years ago. I was funny, by cousin was yelling at the caterpillar, and she told him (caterpillar) that he was bad. lol

If the fireworks got cancelled, oh well, we probably leave the park early and go back to the hotel and go swimming. Or we may stay at the park and ride some more rides.

I get really nervous! One time I had obsessively planned so much that I mistakenly made the flight reservation for the WRONG DAY! I went to check in online and found out my flight left the day before. So now I always feel like I'm going to have missed something.

We planned our last trip in 3 days and that was perfect- no worrying!

That said. I have had less-than-magical trips. I thought I'd lost my DL mojo. But it came back! So if for some reason a trip just doesn't feel quite right- I bet the next one will!

 That is my nightmare, that I have made a mistake like that!! I work with numbers all day and am very detail oriented, but when I go to book airfare or hotels, I turn into a nervous wreck! I quadruple check the dates, and still feel dread when I click the confirmation button, just knowing that somehow I have the info entered wrong. Filing taxes, doing payroll...no sweat! Buying a plane ticket...I'm a basketcase! Haha! :confused3

We have been enough times that I know we will have a great time no matter what. I am more nervous going into an unknown situation. We have a trip coming up in 10 days or so :goodvibes and once I got past the initial flight/hotel booking stage, and confirmed it was correct, then all my icky nerves went away. Now I just have the happy, excited butterflies!

I just did the opposite! We took the 2.5 hour drive to the airport last Monday only to find out our flight was Tuesday. My kids were pretty cool about it, but I'm sure "remember when mom ... " will come up for years to come. Worst part was having to pay for the unused hotel since we used a 3rd party site to book it. The hotel upgraded us for the rest of our stay at least. Going to the DL portion of our trip next week. :D
