I almost got stitch when a girl said she wanted a crown for it so i said i had a crown and took it off and opened a trade window. so i put up crown and she puts up stitch then she says to let her ask her friend if its a good trade. she asks and her friend says no way so i say i could add alot more and say plz and she says she does not answer to plz and then she changes her mind to wanting a bird hat. we were in a stitch offer room at the time and the owner says she can add a bird hat and the girl said she will think about it. i just sit there crushed and in shock from going from excited and my heart about to stop to just having dreams crushed. even though i might get stitch this winter it is a 1% chance even though i live so close. i should just give it up. although i wont. i will not rest until i achieve all of my vmk dreams: to get stitch, to get inferno, and to be a CL. but, oh well. i gave it a try. i might get over it eventually. :sad2:

I would be very wary of this kind of thing if you want to be a CL. I know we try not to discuss value of trades here because to each person items have their own value. But in this case it may be safe to assume that if this girl was really going to trade her stitch hat for a crown she was probably new and did not know the value of what she had. If you had traded her for a crown, I personally would not think that you treated her fairly, and I don't think that is a good value for a future Community Leader. Can you imagine her finding you again someday after she learns more about the game and about the trade she made and then the expression on her virtual face when she learns that you have been rewarded as a good citizen? You may really want that hat, but do you want it enough to scam a new VMKer for it?

Flip, flop, flip, flop.

Do you really want to get your hat that way? I hate to repeat the other players without actually quoting their posts (sorry 'Pirincess' and Bearz :teeth: ), but I don't think she'd have a good faith in the system if you were rewarded. That is, quite literally, scamming a rare item out of a new player that doesn't know better.

I think you should rethink your morals before considering a Community Leader title in your future. Why, exactly, do you want to be a CL?

I think the worst thing would be to find the situation you just wrote up in the Dis Scams thread once the girl gets a clue. It'd make me feel horrid if I went back and realized I was lumped in with the folks who yank rares away last minute and ask for items 'just to try on'.

Everyone is new at some point... and if adults or older kids start taking advantage of the newbies and their naivete, VMK could eventually limit the age of the people who play to protect the younger children.

I definitely think that if I saw a CL behave in that fashion, I'd have to report them and be very, very worried about how VMK was choosing those people that are representing the VMK values.

Oh, and you won't get that coveted new STAR...

(insert snicker here since most likely only staff yes folk will probably get them)

:stir:

she wasnt new. she had a lot of rare stuff including the sparrow shirt and bottom and ive seen her before when i traded her my green explorer suit for a herbie top and a safari lifestyle collection poster. value depends on how much the person values it. she happened to value a crown more than a stitch hat. after i offered a lot more she said stitch hats were worthless. i told her they were worth a lot and then she said they were not even worth a ned pin. now im pretty sure she was just kidding trying to get me to stop wanting it. someone might even want an npc pin for it and still know the value. so i wasnt scamming her. i am not a scammer. and i dont like how you think im a scammer. if you do think im a scammer, then you dont know me at all. i myself have been scammed three times and i personally hate scammers. and you cant tell me whether to be a CL or not. i want to be one so bad that nothing can stop me. i help people all the time. i have given up alot of time to help people on quests. i answer people's questions. i give free stuff. i help people who have been scammed by giving them free stuff, not scam them. i cant say no to a favor, even if its giving free stuff. its natural for me. i cant say no in real life and am very nice. its in my blood. i am very trustworthy and would never ever scam someone. again, if you think that, then you dont know me at all and need some work in getting to know me. im sorry if you think i was trying to scam her. i just really wanted a stitch hat. value means how much people want it and value it, not just how rare it is. i just happened to think that she valued a crown more than a stitch hat. so dont just go all against me and think of me as a scammer. that really bothers me. i am not a scammer. none of you know me apparently. ok flame over.

The other scenario is that she likes to mess with people's heads. If she
has as much rare as you say she does, she probably knows fully well how
much Stitch would be worth in a trade.

It sounds like she got her kicks at your expense, and she probably does this
to other people, too. I'm really saddened to see cruelty like that in the
game, but it happens.

And I think while it's great that you help people, you shouldn't feel that
you need to give your stuff away because you think it might make you a
CL faster. It sounds like you feel you're not worthy as a player if you're
not a CL. I say, "Phooey!" to that. You don't have to be a leader to
be a valued member of the VMK community. :)

Players who want to be leaders and become leaders don't post "I want to
be a leader so badly that I'll just die if I don't!!" Think about that. When
helping people becomes the primary importance and being a leader is
secondary, you might be ready to be a leader.

Personally, I think it's great that you try to help people. Hopefully you'll
get a Gold Star for it one of these days. :)

amen to that BriarRosie!!!!! (did i really say amen?????) oh well.............. sorry to hear you were so close, but that's part of what keeps us playing: trying to get rare. like, if you were a CL, and had lots of magic and costumes, what would you play for????? probably just your friends, but then again, i chat more on the dis than in vmk..................

I realize this wasn't one of those cases, but I thought this was worth mentioning. There are some people on VMK (and I know some of them are on Dis, too, because they've posted that they do this) that like to "gift" things to others, but they accept lesser items from the person they're trading with so that that person doesn't feel guilty. When I was new to VMK, I got my superhero suit for really cheap, and I thought I had just made a good trade, but after thinking about it for awhile, I realized that was probably what had happened, someone had "gifted" me the suit. Just remember that there are people out there who do that kind of thing, so not every instance of something like this is a "scam".

A nice point! People often gift someone when they're "trading" especially if they're newer to the game. I always enjoyed doing that.

Get over yourself, ZOMG I ALMOST GOT STITCH!!!

It's just a game, not a loss at all.

uh.............. you don't remember who gifted it to you or what you traded do you????? because i'm pretty sure i "gifted" my green suit to someone, although i think they actually gave me something pretty nice in return...........

I think it was just a Dead Man's Chest and a Davy Jones Organ, back when they were tradeable, but I don't know who it was because it wasn't actually me using Mnementh at that time. It was my fiance.
