Almost. I mean his supporters have put him up on such a high pedestal there isn't anywhere for him to go but down. All of the gushing is a bit much. I understand the historical significance and I appreciate that, but for heaven's sake the "tingling" and all at his speech is a little much. I'm glad the O supporter's are happy but let's give him chance to actually do something before we criticize him OR lavish him with praise.

I also agree with this statement! I am very happy and the fact that the glass ceiling was broken is an accomplishment...

There was a political cartoon in our paper the other day..in each frame was a new person saying something like "Obama's gonna give me free health insurance!" "Obama's gonna solve world peace" "Obama's going to give me a pony!" and in the last frame is an adviser and Obama and the adviser says "just so you know, expectations are high"

It's true. He can't SOLVE everything. Unfortunately, when he CAN'T everyone will say 'SEE!"

I'm a supporter and I don't have him on a pedestal at all. I am thrilled he won and I look forward to seeing what kind of changes he can bring. But I also understand he is human, and he has a gigantic mess of a country to muck through. I don't expect him to be perfect. He'll do things I question and things I disagree with, but in the end, he's who I have invested my vote and my hope in, so all I can do is wish him the best. I don't think this 'hero worship' (not your words, I know) that many are claiming is really that at all. I think the hope that Obama has brought so many came at a time when we desperately need it. Why wouldn't it be enthusiastically embraced? What's wrong with hope, anyway? What is greeting him with cynicism and skepticism going to accomplish? Surely his supporters are not going to welcome him with dismay?

It's a great day and I don't think anyone has to worry that we'll be "disappointed" and "let down" by our "Messiah." We'll be fine, I'm sure.

I agree , and I think it won't be long before the press finds something to start picking at him with, just like they always do. Now don't get me wrong, I believe the media has a left bias, but they will still turn on him eventually. Although certainly not to the same extent if he was republican. But I am not worried about the O supporters, not at all. I know they are happy today. Enjoy.

Well said. I totally agree. I don't think President Obama is magic. But I do think he's incredibly intelligent, judicious, thoughtful, admirable, and capable. That in itself is refreshing and inspiring. He has big plans. Some will work, others may not, but he has inspired many Americans, and offered hope as long as we're willing to do the work. It's phenomenal.

I think we have realistic expectations. For months now we have been talking about the recovery of our economy taking years. I know it will be tough going. Please don't imply that we are such simpletons that we think big changes will happen immediately, as nobody has even hinted at such a thing. I fully expect the media to keep him on his toes as well because that is their job.
