does anyone have any recent experience driving I-95 from Florida to Connecticut? My DH is starting out from Tampa on Saturday at about noon and driving straight through to home expecting to be home by Sunday afternoon. I'm wondering about traffic and construction. Anyone done this route lately? Any major backups?

Well you know about CT in Fairfield/New Haven county......what a mess it is there. He's driving all this way by himself? Are you nervous?

The Virginia/D.C. area is always a nightmare--even on Sundays. If the HOV lanes are running northbound on Sunday (in Virginia) have him get on those down by Quantico and exit off of them before Springfield, VA.

No construction from the DC beltway to the Delaware Memorial Bridge but traffic is always heavy, especially in the northern part of Delaware.

I-95 in Virginia/DC/Maryland can be a nightmare, regardless of the day or time.

Last Thursday we left Pennsylvania later than normal thinking we'd avoid some traffic. Ha! Wrong! We had been listening to traffic reports and there was a car fully engulfed in flames just south of Woodbridge complete with choppers (I'm assuming Life Flight) circling above. This was around 7:30 in the evening! We got off on Rte 1 and came home that way because if they had to land on I-95 to fly someone out, you're talking traffic at a stand still.

Every now and then we do get lucky when driving up to PA and back down here again and hit absolutely nothing, no traffic, no construction, etc. There's no rhyme or reason to the madness on 95!

Yeah, Connecticut I know!! What a nightmare, even up on the north end of 95 where I am. One minor accident ties it up forever.

He'll be driving with my brother so it shouldn't be too bad. Nervous is when he and a friend did this last June and got a flat tire on a rental truck at about 3 in the morning in a very bad part of NYC (or there about). A few people "offered" to help out. Very scary.

Thanks for the other tips about DC area.

I just came back from a Florida to New Jersey trip a few days ago. Left on a Friday, stopped and finished Saturday. Only hit about a 15 minute delay on the approach to DC northbound. No traffic at all on the way back south. I have done this round trip many times and usually hit some problems, but not this time. A lot of the old constructions zones are finally gone. Travel on the weekend seems to be better than during the week. When I have done this trip on a weekday, I always seemed to hit rush hour traffic somewhere. I hope he has a safe trip!

If you can manage to hit the DC beltway area between 11pm and 3am, you'll fly through the area! :teeth: :teeth: :teeth: :teeth: :teeth:

We did St. Augustine to NJ with NO problems last weekend. We hit D.C. area around noon on Sunday.
