We are driving to Disney next month. However we are NOT leaving until 1:00 p.m. on Aug. 7th which is a Thursday. We will probably drive until 10 or 11:00. Where do you think would be a good place to stop for the night. Will we make southern part of S.C.?? We are coming south of Baltimore MD. THANKS

Where are you leaving from?

If you are in the southern most part of SC, there's not a lot. You could take the Hilton Head exit, but the hotels will probably be many miles off 95. I'd suggest pushing through just a little further to GA. There are SO many hotel/motels in the Savannah area exits. We're in Richmond, VA, and we always stop in one of the Savannah exits. Specifically Richmond Hill exit has a lot of nice new hotels.

We live in MD south of Baltimore....... can't for the life of me remember where we stayed last year when we stopped. It was very late.....like 1 or 2 in the morning.

DH is a professional truck driver. He figures you'll make 550-600 miles, depending on traffic and bathroom stops.

Close to Florence, SC is the best guess.

Oh I think so. We have stopped in Walterboro, SC - that should be about 550 miles for you. If that is too far - we also have stopped in Florence, SC - which is about 450 miles. If it was a Friday - I would say no, but Thursday you should be fine to get to Walterboro.

We drove from CT, about am hour from NYC/half hour from the NY line and we made it to santee on our first day.

I want to say we wherein the DC area at around 11. We left at 6am and made it to santee at about 9:30-10 and that was with about an hour of traffic south of DC.

Also, if you know how far you are from the GW bridge, we were across by 7.

I will have to ask my hubby today. He would know this. I feel like in good traffic...we are about 45 min. to D.C. area. I have a reservation at a hotel in Florence....if we are making good time...then I have until 4:00 to cancel or change it. If I see that we are doing good..then we will push it to Santee and stay over there.

I'd say we are about 5 hours from DC.

I take 95, but travel early morning to avoid traffic. With that light traffic I typically would reach Georgia about 10 hours after hitting Baltimore, including 1-1.5 hours in stops.

Yeah...we have actually driven straight thru when we leave early morning but this trip we can't do that. For some reason it does NOT bother us to drive straight thru if we head out early....but leaving any later than 9 in the morning...we always stop over.

We drove down in June from southern NJ (~35 minutes to Delaware Mem Br). We left around 2pm on a Saturday and stopped in Florence, SC around 11:15/11:30. On the way home we left southern FL late and stopped in Savannah area and drove home the next day and it took us about 14hours (with stops, including a sit down dinner) from Savannah. Hope that helps! Try to call the hotel in advance to book a room. Once we had a feeling of where we would stop, we called from the road and booked a room as we were getting in late. Both hotels were full wheb we checked in so I was happy to not have to hunt for a room at 11pm. Hope that is helpful.

Believe me I am the same way. Once it starts getting after say 9 pm I start getting tired. But leaving early morning the sun coming up gives you a boost and then you are traveling in daylight the rest of the way which helps. Also I am up early anyway for work so getting up a couple hours early doesn't bother me. And as an added bonus, the other car passengers all sleep in the car and don't wake up until we are already in NC or even SC! If I thought I could drive overnight I might try that. But I know it would be a struggle, or more likely impossible, for me.
