Hi all, I figured some people here might have some nice suggestions / anecdotes about traveling on I-90. I'm going to be driving from MA to OH to go to Cedar Point this summer.

I was wondering if anyone had some fun stops along the way to make it more of a road trip than a long drive. We've been to the Baseball Hall of Fame in NY, and we are looking at stopping at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but other than that, it's an open itinerary.

We don't really want to travel off I-90 too much, anyone have suggestions for places to stop for sight-seeing, fun, or eating?

Is Harper's Ferry in MaryLand to far off.
This is a great place to stop and rest and the Appalachian Trails is there.

Right off of I-90 in Erie, PA (you will pass right through Erie on your way -- about 8-10 hours after you leave Mass) (or about 2-3 hours after leaving Cedar Point)http://www.splashlagoon.com/ -- great indoor water park

& about 15-20 minutes off of I-90 (also Erie)

http://www.waldameer.com/ -- a very reasonably priced amusement park

&

http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/parks/presqueisle.aspx -- I know you have 'da h-ocean' up there but -- this is one of the 5 great lakes.

Have a great trip! (my family & I have made it many, many times -- Mass to Erie -- Erie to Cedar Point (wicked awesome coasters!) -- if you have any questions I'd be happy to help!

I live in the Cleveland Area and love Cedar Point. If you are going to the Rock and Roll HOF and have some extra time check out the Great Lakes Science Center. It is literally next door to the HOF.

If you are going to try and catch something to eat in Cleveland I would recommend heading up to Ohio City and the Market District. My favorite micro brewery is the Great Lakes Brewery. The little alleyway they are on also has a very nice wine bar and a great restaurant.

Turning Stone Casino is right off I-90 between Albany and Syracuse in NY, you can see it from the highway. I think around Exit 33?

eta:
there is also...

outlet shopping very close to I-90 at Lee, MA (exit 2 of the Mass Pike) and Waterloo, NY (Exit 42 of NYS Thruway).
Onandaga Lake park- good spot for a picnic, leg stretch. Highway goes over the parking lot, but access is not direct from the highway.
Montezuma Wetlands if there are birdwatchers among you.
Finger lakes area has lots of vineyards that do wine tasting- wouldn't recommend if you are getting right back in the car and driving, tho.
Darien Lake amusement park is between Rochester and Buffalo.
maybe 1 hr each way out of your way could have you to Niagara Falls.

eta2: keep thinking of more...
Howe Caverns- just west of Albany Exit 25A- very cool. http://www.howecaverns.com/
Don't know much on the other side of Buffalo, but I know the Boston-Buffalo stretch pretty well.

When you pass the Madison Ohio exit, wave:wave2: We live just off the exit. Look for the water tower with carousel horses on it! In Erie Pa., take a drive thru Presque Isle state park. The beaches are beautiful there. Put In Bay, Lake Erie islands are a hoot. Not to far from Cedar Point. Lots of wineries thru northern Ohio too.

Thanks for the great ideas everyone! :) Keep 'em coming.

Great Lakes Brewery, yum. Waldameer sounds pretty cool since you can pay just for the rides you want. Howe Caverns looks very fun!
