I-4 Traffic

In my quest to move to the Orlando area, I have had many, many people say to avoid I-4.

My question is, if you live south of Orlando and work north of Orlando (so your driving south to north in the morning and north to south in the evening) is it really that bad since your going the opposite direction of the WDW tourists?

I don't think the majority of the traffic issues is WDW traffic but more of regular people going back and forth to work, just as you would be. Orlando is a pretty big city.

I-4 is a nightmare. Makes no difference what direction you are travelling at what time. Bad, bad, bad. There is a reason why people say to avoid I-4.

LOL, Gotcha.. :thumbsup2

Does Orlando have any plans to address the issue? Like say with a bypass?

Correct...most of the traffic on a daily basis is local traffic but tourists add to the madness. Luckily I don't have to take I-4 at all unless I want an adventure. ;)

Not really...I mean there is a bypass but it doesn't help I-4 from either coast. This area lost their chance at a really good bypass years ago before all the housing communities sprung up. Plus...Orlando officials are determined to make everyone come through downtown Orlando during their travels. That's one of the main reasons the monorail from OIA to WDW stalled when Orlando wanted it to go through downtown with a stop and Disney said no...they wanted an express route...didn't happen. Try to avoid I-4 whenever possible.

If you work North of Orlando, ie: Lake Mary, Sanford, Maitland, Altamonte etc
You would never want to live in Hunters Creek, Deerfield, Winter Garden, Windermere, etc. The drive time would be ridiculous.

The 429 leading to the Turnpike in the morning is a parking lot as well.

If you end up working North of Orlando, look at Seminole county for a place to live.

I use I-4 daily and don't find it to be a problem unless there is heavy rain or an accident.

I don't get all the I-4 angst. It's busy but traffic is moving along. It's not stop-n-go by any means. The Sigalert message boards are really good about telling you travel times.

Or it could be that I'm from Los Angeles and I've seen worse. :confused3
