Hypothetical question: What if the Hawaii building is not done on time?

I have a question for those who were moved out of the Hawaii building for this next month. I remember reading that some people were booked there, before they remodel schedule dates were set.

How did they handle your move? Did they just call and tell you that you have to choose a different resort? If you chose a less expensive resort, did they refund the difference? How about if you chose a more expensive room/resort, did they ask for the difference right away?

Just wondering what to expect, just in case.

OK, I can see that. But in my opinion, the only CL experience which rivals the Polynesian is AKL, however the guest rooms are mych smaller and it would be tight for a family of five. The BC, YC, GF SL, WL, they don't even come close. In fact we found the YC, GF SL, and WL very disappointing, and aren't likely to return to them.

Not trying to start an arguement, BTW, just kind of sussing this one out in my brain.

Anne

No arguement to have. Everyone has different opinions and wants. Obviously some guests would rather move to concierge in other locations then to stay in a make shift situation at the Polynesian. Actually that was one of the main complaints about the previous situation, why did the Polynesian not move them to other locations, especially to the Grand Floridian and Contemporary. And while your experiences at other concierge locations were not to your liking, there are many that like them alot.

We leave this Sunday and were initially booked for Poly concierge. They called us long ago to move us to another concierge. Their first suggestion was AKL but we wanted monorail. We asked for GF and could have Sugarloaf...but this was when it was still "light" so we asked for 14th floor Contemporary which is where we are staying. No difference in price..we are paying the same rate.

Thanks :) It helps to know what to expect, in case we have to make the same decision.

We have concierge booked for Oct 21-30. Our entire trip is based around ease of access to Epcot (Food and Wine Festival) and MK (MNSSHP on 2 nights). All of our ADRs are based on the location of the Polynesian (i.e. 'Ohana, CG, WCC, Kona, Narcoose's, Concourse Steakhouse, etc.). We had originally tried to reserve a concierge room at one of the Epcot resorts but there was not availability for our dates at any of those 3 resorts so we reserved a concierge room at the Polynesian and based our trip around that location and moved our Yacht Club trip to November.

We are very concerned because when I checked today regarding availability at other resorts the only concierge rooms that were available are at Animal Kingdom Lodge. While we love AKL we were just there in May and the location does not work for any of our plans.

Do you think they have concierge rooms blocked off at any of the other monorail resorts (we would really only be interested in RPC since until the Contemporary renovation is complete the rooms are not to our liking) "just in case" or will we be out of luck?

All of our activities for this trip revolve around staying at the Polynesian, too, but I think as long as we're still on the monorail, I won't have to change or alter any of our plans. Unless they make us an offer we can't refuse to stay at the AKL, that resort location really isn't an option for us, either, for this trip.

I really don't know if they have blocked off any rooms in case they need to move us. I am not going to worry about it (well try not to worry. lol) because in the almost-5 years that I've been reading the DIS boards, I haven't seen Disney leave guests without a decent option, when they've had to move them. :)

I just changed from 14th floor contemporary, to poly lvc, for october26-30. they will be done.

I hope for all of our sakes, it is done on time :sunny:

See you at the Polynesian! :flower:

I'm thinking positive...that they will be done.

Steve,
My expectations are high. We have already changed out vacation times once based on the timing of the rehab. We're now scheduled for two weeks after the rehab is scheduled to be complete. There really is no place else we would want to stay.

One big worry I have, though, is the thought that this is still hurricane season! Disney may push these contractors to the limit to get Hawaii finished on time because of the fact that they are losing the concierge $$$ but if there is a hurricane anywhere near that's going to set them back.

But like I said at the beginning of my post...they will be done! :wizard:

Here's some hope for you all that they will be done! :wizard: I would be stressing out, too.

I just have to add that if you have to stay at the CR (great concierge staff & new rooms & fun to walk b/f to MK) or GF - WONDERFUL resort it won't be too bad! ;) I am envious of all of you!! :flower:

Enjoy your trips & come back and tell us all about the new Hawaii rooms & service! :sunny:

I had an email from a Polynesian Concierge CM and in the message was some info about Hawaii rehab and at the end of the sentence was this statement

“i don't think the building will reopen on schedule.”

So hopefully it will not go over schedule too much. Just be prepared. I am sure they will do their best to get it open as close to the 11th as they can and not just because of the money.

We were scheduled to be there at the end of this month

We were informed through our travel agent in July about the rehab and offered any other resort at no cost increase. It was very hard for me as we had been planning for a year our Poly trip. We chose the Boardwalk based on our TA recommendation.

I've been very happy with the IPO service and once I got used to not being at the Poly I am very excited about the Boardwalk.

They did offer to downgrade us at the Poly and refund the difference.

Oh, rats! :sad2:

Here's hoping it goes faster than he/she anticipates. Was there any particular reason?

I have our PSs arranged around staying at the Polynesian too for that part of our trip although the GF and CR would work as well. But a regular room at the Poynesian works as well for us as we're not die hard conciergers. I love going to dinner via monorail or launch. :sunny:

I hope you were originally booked in a concierge garden view room and not a lagoon view room, because according to the prices on Disney's web site, the 14th floor concierge at the Contemporary costs less per night than Polynesian lagoon concierge, but more than garden view concierge. If you were booked in garden concierge then I think Disney offered you a decent room, for your inconvenience. :)

In our case, we're booked in a concierge lagoon view room and the only other regular, non-suite and non-deluxe concierge room on the monorail (and probably on all of the Disney property) is at the Grand Floridian, main building concierge. The Sugar Loaf concierge building is less. If the Hawaii building is not done by our check-in date, I wonder if they plan to move us to the GF main building concierge; or else we'll decide on another room type or resort, and get back the price difference. I am assuming this will be a last-minute change, so I hope they'll be willing to work with us.

Still hoping Hawaii will be ready for all of us, though!! :sunny:

We have ressies for two LVC rooms for Oct 10th-16th. Yes, 10th. Noone has ever contacted us to move us. They may be confused because we also have a suite in Tonga for the same dates in the same name (?) We arrive on Oct 7th, booked into regular LV as well for the 7th-10th, so maybe our ressie is just somehow being missed by the concierge planners/reschedulers...?

I don't know what to do besides keep my ear to the ground (boards, lol) and call ahead. I am planner for a group of my friends and family who are coming on their first (and perhaps only) trip--I so want it to go smoothly, and well, and to have our LVC rooms! This thread has NOT made me feel better! LOL

I think ducklite is right, it would be better to set up a small temporary concierge lounge in Tahiti rather than try to send us off to another resort. As mentioned upthread, there aren't any rooms showing availability in concierge in other resorts for our dates anyway! I think if it were just for a few days or even a week, they could pull it off easily. IMO. I would much rather do that, then move to another resort!

BCV, we'll see you in the lounge in Hawaii--just keep thinking good thoughts! LOL

Maybe they think we will all be squeezing into the suite in Tonga?! I really should contact IPO, I am just afraid! LOL!! I need some major pixie dust.....

chamonix, I don't think it can hurt to email IPO, they are wonderful there and will let you know if they have all of your info straight, regarding all of the rooms you have booked :)

Thanks, I sent an email last night, I expect/hope to hear back on Monday. Oh, please let them email me on Monday and not keep me hanging! LOL

We still have several other plans we want them to take care of for us. In the past, they have always contacted us before this. That in itself is unusual. In the past by now we would have had a phone call at least, and snail mail too. Weird. Still not feeling good about this!

Did someone say they shut down for the concierge rehab this weekend? I hope somehow we can keep appraised of the progress--or lack of progress.....I'll let you know what I hear from IPO....considering the two LVC rooms and the two bedroom suite we have booked, and we are frequent return guests--one would think we would be contacted by now..... :rotfl2:

Last year we arrived on 10/17 and we received a call from IPO on 6/16! This year our ressies are for arrival on 10/23 and I still had not received a call or any snail mail by 8/25! So, I emailed and they emailed back right away (within 24 hours)!

chamonix, we had no contact from the IPO either. That had happened on one other trip so I wasn't worried about it. I usually make all our ADRs myself so wasn't stressed about that either.

Anyway, I did email the IPO yesterday. Jeffrey contacted me in the evening and what a delight he was. But as far as opening in time for our stay, he told me that CRO would contact us if Hawaii wasn't going to be open. He also said work had not started yet.

Since you had no contact either, I wonder if there is a little block of us who the IPO knows nothing about?

The Funai Classic starts 10/20. Last year we were in Hawaii during the tournament and there were golfers staying there. I wonder if any have been placed there for this year?

You're right, we'll just continue to think positive. :goodvibes

Ohh, another one with no contact?! :confused3
