We all know that first time buyers thru DVC must purchase 150 pts. After that,ad on as low as 25 pts. Here's my scenerio: All you really want is 72 points to stay in a studio 5 weekdays during F&W festival at BCV. You already own a 150 pt contract at OKW. You add on 72 at BCV, then sell your OKW contract. Are you allowed to own less then 150 pts ? Can a newbie just purchase a resale of less then 150 pts ?

The answers are yes and maybe. You can sell you base contract even if that leaves you at less than 150 points. I know of 2 purchases that have gone through to new members that were less t han 150 points. One was a member on this board. It is my impression though that DVC is more likely to repurchase those contract and that they are likely to go for a higher price per point. Closing is the same also Besides, there is the risk that the points will change later and you'd be out in the cold. No way I'd buy the exact number of points for a studio for S-F, IMO the risk is just too great. Better to buy a real contract and rent out the extra points. Be forewarned that many who have gone for the bare minimum have decided later to add on more points, many times doing multiple add ons.

Personally, I think the risk of rebalancing the points between weekends/weekdays is a very real one and frankly expect it to happen at some point. I'm not quite as worried about major changes in the seasons.

Understand, this was just some silly scenerio that popped into my head, not something I personally am considering. I was just curious if it was do-able and apparently it is.

Both scenarios have actually occured.
