Hypervigilance?

Anyone else suffer from hypervigilance/hyperawareness? Mine seems to be getting worse lately. Is there any kind of a resource for attractions - especially ones you wouldn't necessarily think of - where things pop out at you unexpectedly? Anyone have coping strategies for park touring they can share?

If you look on YouTube there are ride through videos of most of the rides so you can look at them beforehand, as for things you might not expect in rides that seem calm.

In the people mover in mk there is a section were you go past space mountain and the cars woosh by.

Carosel of progress has a time of complete darkness.

Those two pop to the front of my mind, I can't say I am hyper vigilant myself, but I am willing to help as best I can :)

I appreciate this! At least on the rides themselves you sort of know to expect the unexpected. I worry more about things before you get on, like in the lines (dark hallways and - oh god - motion-activated things), and I'm absolutely terrified of that DiVine woman thing popping out at me

Alright, I'll think about that.

In Epcot world showcase they have the perry the platypus thing, where people walk around with a cell phone completing missions with agent p. at time they can trigger things to move or sounds to go off, most are quieter and not too bad, but near the Norway bathrooms there is a horn blow they trigger, in Mexico there is a parrot they make bounce around and talk, and in china they make a statu rise out if the water. Finally in Japan they cause smoke to blow out of the rock formation on the moracco side of the store

Might also want to stay away from bugs life movie in animal kingdom as the seats in the theatre can be intense and the dinosaur ride there at the end the Dino pops out and really scared my daughter.

Ooh, yes, all of those are good things to know! Exactly the kind of thing that can scare me half to death. I feel like such a chicken but it's not that I think any of these things will hurt me, just startle me, and my brain doesn't cope well when there are things around to be startled by!

One more for Perry the Platypus , I forgot about the toy soldier in the Uk, he is near the toy store in the back and come to life when triggered by a player.

New one that came to mind, in the Magic Kingdom the camel near the Aladdin Magic Carpets shoots water, only a thin stream, but that would make even me jump a mile.

Thank you! I'm starting a list!

Dinosaur in AK.

Towards the end of the ride, something happens on the left side of the vehicle.

I hate "gotcha's" so I close my eyes at the end if I have to ride it or I sit on the right, but I still close my eyes.

Spoiler below

Big dinosaur shoots out from a dark area over the top of the ride vehicle and there is a super loud noise and rush of air.

Yeah I don't think I'd be going on that one anyway LOL

In Winnie the Pooh in MK there is an woozle that shoots smoke at you, he is at the last turn in the room.

How are you with 3d movies, mic key's phiharmagic has a scene with the fantasia Brooms where you get splashed with water, but just a little

I was okay with 3D when I was a kid (Muppet Vision 3D), though these days I tend to get motion sick/dizzy from stuff of that nature. Though in those things I don't usually startle, at least, because I know to expect the unexpected.

Some of the Haunted Mansion CM's get a little more, er, "playful" than others. On my last trip, one guy stood by the door for like five minutes like a wax statue, without even blinking. I watched his chest, and couldn't see it rise and fall. Then he "sprang to life" and did his welcome spiel.

Oh lord, that sounds like a heart attack waiting to happen!

The stage shows at MK and HS use small fireworks. If you are not aware or prepared for them thy may startle you.

Also, in the Haunted Mansion's grave yard, there are a few pop up ghouls.

Unfortunately MK an Epcot World Showcase will be hard. MK now has Sorcers of the Magic Kingdom and the new Pirates attraction. For SotMK there are portals in Main Street, Fantasyland, Adventureland, and Frontierland. The portals are windows or even poster and cabinets that are activated by the players. Some are very loud and well hidden so the "portal" coming into play mode may set off your anxiety.

The new pirates adventure in Adventureland is even worse. It is load an in some sections players set off cannons (over pirates and in front of the shop), darts (air cannons blow at people in the area) and talking skulls to the left open area when facing Pirates, moving paintings and ships in bottles in the pirates store, eyes hidden in the Tikis, a clam shell by Tiki room, another cannon and sinking boat by Jungle Cruise, a spitting cobra by the Aladdin and Jasmine meet and great, and a few others to the right of the shops back by the bathrooms near pirates.

There are quite a few in the World Showcase with Agent P. I work that attraction so if you would like a list of every gag PM me and I can give you a general location of all of them. They are in 7 of the 11 countries and all make noise and make something in the pavilion move with out warning. Some are much more noticeable that others.

Sounds like a bunch of stuff I might be better off skipping. Thanks for the info!

Oh lord, that sounds like a heart attack waiting to happen!

I was, like, 99% sure it was a real CM, because he was wearing a name tag, and I figured they MIGHT put a name tag on a statue, but it would probably be a joke name like "Barry D'Alive" or something, but there was still that 1%. Anyway, that was the most extreme example I've seen of their trying to spook people.

I LOVE push and was so excited when he came up to me and my DS by the Speedway for a chat. I knew about him in advance but my DS just about jumped out of his skin!

Maybe I can just wear some kind of sign around my neck...
