What are the changes from space mountain to Hyperspace Mountain? Heading to DL in July and just wanted to know what's new about this ride. Thanks for any info you can share!

The ride is the same, just music and graphics around the ride have changed.

And the degree of awesomeness!
We all like Spacemountain we all disliked Ghost Galaxy we all LOVED Hyperspace. ..it tells a story from beginning to end and is just well Awesome ...

Is this a permanent change to the ride or temporary?

It is all kinds of AWESOME. Best overlay I have seen especially if you like star wars.

Disney have not announced when it will end - anyone can guess but until you hear it from the horses mouth there is no guarantee how long it will last.

We rode it at least 10 times last week and enjoyed it very much!! But being a Star Wars fan since 1977 helps...

We rode Hyperspace 4 times on a brief 2 day trip and I loved it! I like regular SM and Ghost Galaxy, but Hyperspace was nicely done with both the sequences they selected from the films, the voices, and the timing. Definitely worth trekking over to get FP and then escaping back to DCA (where it felt less crowded) until FP return times came up.

Definitely my favorite overlay by far. I like that there actually is a story/directive to the ride.
I can't begin to describe my Star Wars dorkyness...

Can someone take a video and post it on youtube because I won't be there til AFTER the SOF is done and I really really REALLY wanted to ride it. Kthanx. ;)

*Disclaimer* I know you probably can't but I thought I'd put it out there just in case.

There are several videos already posted on YouTube, but roller coasters in general aren't the easiest to video. I watched a few and they're all pretty jerky (which I suppose is pretty accurate to how things look when you're on the ride) and blurry, but they give you a sense of the attraction.

I honestly think any video of HSM is not going to do it justice as it's a very dark ride - nothing like a video walk through of say Screamin or RSR where you can clearly see what is happening. The ride itself has not changed - it is just the visuals you see within the ride that have been altered and the audio track.

We just watched that video last night. Our family is really into Star Wars. Our 7 year old son hasn't rode Space Mt. yet but when he saw this video he was all about riding it. Our trip is Sept. 12-16, so we are hoping the Star Wars overlay is still going on.

It's a lot of fun if you are a Star Wars fan. Personally, I think the best overlay was when they put in the Red Hot Chili Peppers music on SM and Screamin', but HSM is a very close second. :smooth:

Ohhh really ...DH and I would have really loved that!

Should we assume that ghost galaxy will replace HyperSpace mountain for the Halloween season?

we arent going till the last week of November. My kid would love the star wars stuff, but im thinking we will be too late :(
