Hi all,

Just found this journal set of threads and I think this is a great idea. It's a good place to post my thoughts about this whole weight loss journey that I'm on. I'm bummed becuase I don't seem to be losing like I hoped I would. But then again, the scale hasn't topped 280 in a while so I guess I should be happy. It just seems like I'm dieting and working out but the weight is going up and down and up and down. Might have to do with the fact that I'm weighing myself at different times of the day, though. I try to keep that in mind.

I've been tracking my calories using sparkpeople.com. Most days I'm over my calorie mark. Yesterday I thoguht I was doing good by stopping by Zaxby's for a grilled chicken salad with buffalo sauce. Until I saw that that meal had over 800 calories in it. Now granted it's a huge salad. But I was bummed. But then I realized that just by being conscious of my calories, I'm bound to be eating fewer than I have previously. If nothing else, I haven't had a cheesburger and fries in days. Might splurge on one today. That's another tip I remember from a friend..... have one meal at which you get to splurge a week. That way you don't feel so deprived.

Anyway... those are my current thoughts for what they're worth. :surfweb:

Hi, Hypermommy. I understand your frustration. I think maybe we put too much emphasis on the scale and then when it doesn't show what we think it should, we get frustrated and stop our efforts. I think making healthy lifestyle changes should be more about how you feel and less about a number. It's not that you don't want to lose weight, but if you take the focus off the number and put it on feeling better, clothes fitting better, more energy, or whatever the benefit is that you are having, it might make things a little easier. At least, that's what I am trying to do!

I hope you find journaling to be a big help to you. I enjoy it because it makes me accountable for my food choices and exercise decisions. Keep making healthy changes - the weight will come off eventually!

Hope you have a good weekend.

Susan

Thanks for the encouragement Susan. I sure needed it this morning. Last night I went to work out. Weighed myself and was thrilled that the scale said 271. So I did the arc trainer for 45 minutes and then some abs and leg work. Then I got back on the scale and it said 276. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm doing this to lose weight!!!! Oh well... I k now it won't stay that way forever and the more I do it's bound to come down eventually. Just gotta have faith and trust (and keep finding the pixie dust).

Hi HyperMommy,

I have to agree with Susan. Not only that but that number on the scale can fluctuate significantly from 1 hour to the next. You are getting healthy and that is what is most important.

Keep upi the great work!!

Hi, Hypermommy! Welcome to WISH journals!! :welcome:

You are on the right path and as long as you continue to eat healthier and more consciously and move your body, the weight will come off! :goodvibes

I would suggest two things to help with the scale blues:
1) pick a day of the week and a particular time and only weigh on that day and time once a week for awhile. That might help you not to feel so upset about daily fluctuations
2) you can measure your hips, waist, bust, arms, etc now and then measure again in a few weeks. Sometimes it is amazing how many inches we are losing even when the scale is not showing it.

Good luck! Stick with it! :cheer2: You can do this!:cheer2:

Hi HyperMommy -

Great - another new journal! I agree with other posters, and always weigh myself Friday mornings right after I wake up. Don't ever weigh yourself immediately after working out - while you burn some calories, you also are building muscle and you do retain some water.

Congrats on what you've accomplished so far!
