I got a great rate for the Hyatt Regency Orange County on Priceline, $44. We are only staying one night. A friend of mine stayed there and thought it was great.

Anyone else had any experience there? I'm mainly wondering how far it is from DL and how the shuttle service is. Do you think we could hang out at DD for a while after the park closes (10 p.m.) and still have a shuttle to catch back to the hotel?

We stayed at the Hyatt almost a year ago, and we loved it. It is in neighbouring Garden Grove. Because we had 2 DDs, we spent an extra $15 to get the upgrade to a kidsuite. The suites are in the new tower (forget whether it's North or South), and are beautiful. The kids got their own room with bunk beds, kid-sized table and chairs, and a TV. We got a king-sized bed, fridge, and microwave, and another TV. Very nice and comfortable rooms.

The older tower where my parents had a room were not as nice. They were standard rooms and were tidy, but were a bit worn. Those rooms didn't have a fridge or microwave.

We found the fridge and microwave useful, because we all went out to Buca di Beppo for dinner one night, and had a huge amount of leftovers. We kept it in our fridge and microwaved it for dinner the next night.

Buca is next door to the Hyatt, in front of Hilton Homewood Suites. You'll also find Red Robin, Outback, and Joe's Crab Shack across the street. Target is kitty corner from the hotel--very handy for getting a case of bottled water instead of spending big $$$ for bottled water in the parks.

You would more likely take the shuttle to/from DL, esp. after a long day at the parks. The shuttle is like a coach bus, always on time, and we never really had to wait for it. I don't know what time the shuttle service ended though. We have 2 small children who never stayed up that late. There's a Starbucks near where the shuttle bus stop. The Hyatt's restaurant was good for breakfast but expensive.

Have fun!

This is the hotel I hope to get with my priceline bids. It is the farthest away from the parks, but the shuttles are reliable. We always upgrade to a kidsuite as well.

The hotel itself is good, the rooms leave a bit to be desired (either that or I have had bad luck). Our first stay we got a south tower room and it was HORRIBLE, everything was dirty, we ended up upgrading to a kids suite (an extra $25 a night) but the carpet was still stained but much better then the first room. Our second stay we got a north tower room and again the carpet was stained.

Most shuttles (and if memory serves Hyatt too) have a final shuttle 1/2 hour after Disneyland closure. So if you want to hang out at DTD you will need to drive yourself or catch a cab.

It is very easy to get to (drive) and from the parks, make a right out of the parking lot (onto Chapman) and then make another right turn onto West and you will be directed to the parking structure. On the way back to the hotel turn righ onto Ball then Right onto Harbor.

IMO the best part of this hotel is the Starbuck in the Lobby :)

You can't beat the Priceline price (we did the same thing) but definitely splurge on the upgrade to a KidSuite. The old rooms are not very nice at all, and the ceilings are really low. Even if you upgrade you still get a pretty good price.

The shuttle didn't take long at all. We never had to wait more than 5 minutes for the bus, so that part was great.

I do have to say after staying at the Hyatt in June of 2003, we will definitely spend the money to go back to the Grand Californian again. If you can afford it, nobody does it better than Disney, and there's nothing like being able to walk right into the park from your hotel.

We just returned from DL. We booked our rooms (3) through priceline and ended up with rooms at the Hyatt for $34 a night.

I have to say it was really BAD!!!!! We got one of the older rooms. To say it was dirty would be putting it mildly. I was very disappointed. We thought we were bidding on a 3 STAR HOTEL and we ended up with a 1 STAR ROOM. The Hyatt would upgrade us for an extra $45 a night per a room. Plus $12 a day for parking your car. (We didn't have one) We didn't plan on HAVING to upgrade, so that wasn't planned into our budget.

The shuttle was a disappointment, too! The bus can actually be so crowded you end up holding your children on our lap, if you are lucky enough to get a seat. If you aren't one of those lucky people (to get a seat), you will be standing in the aisle trying to hold on. I actually had to have my 9 yr and 3 yr sit on the floor in the aisle.
