This is especially for UKDEB and anyone else who might be interested in this hotel.

Firstly I should say i have not done this reviewing thing b4 so this might not be up to standard...

HRGC is a great hotel , certainly one of Orlando's best - off WDW property. It has a great location just outside Disney property at LBV and is set in 1400 acres of grounds.

On entering there is a huge central atrium/lobby complete with palm trees, a little stream and several talking parrots !! The usual check-in, conceirge desk and a small lounge/bar area where live piano/singing is performed most evenings.

The hotel offers "Garden View" rooms as standard which basically offer a view out over SR535. For a few $'s more per night you can opt for a "pool" or "lake" view which are well worth it as they all have magnificant views of the huge pool/waterfall area or the lake and grounds. from about the 4th floor upwards you get a good view of the whole of WDW and each firework display over the parks. The only negative is that while each room has a balcony - it is tiny - just big enough to stand up on - but the whole room is faced with a sliding glass door that you can pull right back and pull up a chair !!!

Each room is large and has King or 2 double beds, settee, writing desk, large marble bathroom with separate shower. Large TV with on-demand movies in addition to the usual HBO, CNN etc

Just off the pool area is a self-serve Cafe/deli which turns into a pizza place in the evenings. the main restaurant Cascades is also on the ground floor and is very impressive with a large fountain and huge picture windows looking out over the lake.

They have a restaurant on top of the waterfall above the pool !! which does seafood/steaks etc and the Whitehorse Saloon which does huge steaks/chicken in a Western style with music/live band etc

As I said b4 the hotel is set in 1400 acres of grounds which inclde miles of jogging/biking trails. A very large tennis centre and its own Equestrian centre. There is a very nice golf course (or 2) and the hotel has its own nature reserve that you can walk through.

It is the sort of place you could easily never leave (if you werent in Orlando of course).

One thing I would say however is it is very "upscale" and therefore not cheap - but for us is worth every penny.

UKDEB If there is anything specific you would like to know then just let me know.

Thanks, R-S - that's all really helpful.

So, to get a view of the fireworks, I need a Pool or Lake View Room on the 4th floor or above. I know it's a pretty huge hotel, so can you give me any advice in terms of room nos, or landmarks, for the 'best' view. Not that it's a huge issue, but it would be an added bonus.

Are you golfers? If so, do you have any tips for tee-times, or anything else for that matter. We're not golfers, so it's all a bit of a mystery, but my brother is dead-keen.

You've certainly stayed there a few times! Did you go once and love it so much you just kept going back? And have you had enough now? I see you're not staying there next trip.

Deb

We liked it so much the first time we just have to keep going back. All a matter of personal choice of course - we do make a point of touring various hotels while we are out there and have stayed in a couple of different ones over the years but nothing seems to compare.

You are right it is a huge hotel - this means it never seems crowded and the huge grounds just add to the peacefulness - and yet you are right there on the edge of WDW.

We are hopefully going back to the Hyatt this Sept - (Sheraton V Villages was last year as we took the in-laws so had a 2 room apartment).

As for rooms - imagine the hotel as an up-side-down "T" or in other words 2 "L"s, one facing backwards up against the other:

The Garden view rooms are the ones all along the bottom of the 2 "L"'s . The pool view (the ones you want) are anywhere on the inside of the left hand back to front "L". The lake view are on the inside of the right hand "L". Ask for a high floor room facing the pool and you should be ok. Only some rooms on the lake view dont have a view of all the parks (some might just miss Epcot).

As its LBV the view is not that close of course but you can see the whole display - very good on 4th July !!

We have stayed usually 8th to 10th floors far end of the corridors for the whole view.

Oh and btw I forgot to mention the Starbucks coffee and dunkin donuts wagon in the lobby in the mornings !!!

:)
