We will be flying into MCO in July arriving about 8:15 pm. Will we still have enough time to get our luggage in the hall so that it will be picked up for the cruise the next morning? Do you suggest I call Hyatt and inform them of our late evening arrival? We'll be taking a limo but I understand that the Disney CMs will take our luggage to the ship for us. Is this correct?

It is my understanding that you are to place your luggage outside your door by 8:30 AM the day of your cruise.

You must also let the front desk know that this is what you are doing.

Happy Sailing!

Yes, thats correct. You need the Disney Labels attached to your suitcases, before leaving them outside your hotel room before 8.30am. If you dont have any, then just see one of the Disney reps. who are in the atrium of the airport from early on Sat. morning. They will happily give you some. Happy sailing. Nat:Pinkbounc

We just did this for the 11/15 Magic. It all worked very smoothly! What a great thing to travel to the port so lightly...no need to be counting bags, lugging in and out of limos, tipping everyone who touches your bags. I loved the freedom!

Don't you have to PURCHASE the transfers in order for Disney to take your luggage to port?

I was wondering the same thing Pippy. We are taking a Limo and was wondering if we have DVC take our luggage do we have to pay them as well? Joni:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

I hope somebody knows for sure :) We are cruising this weekend. Have 3 rooms and the Hyatt and 8 people worth of luggage. We are using ********.net but it would be GREAT to not have to LUG the luggage.

I think there have been reports that people have been able to do this without having paid for the transfers, but I do not know for sure.

I personally would not try it. The margin for error is too large, I would think. If you're not on a list as having paid for the transfers, which include luggage handling, then what are the chances that your bags are overlooked, or even pulled aside since you didn't pay for it. I think the minimal effort involved in getting your luggage from your hotel room down to the towncar or what ever other mode of transportation you're using is worth it to ensure that your bags get on the ship. The limo driver will likely load them into the car and unload them at the port, at which time the porters will take them and get them on the ship. For me, it's just not worth the chance that I'll be wearing the same think all week.

We stayed at the Hyatt for our cruise last Jan. I was told by DCL and by an employee at the Hyatt that we were not able to have DCL pick up our luggage because we did not arrange our flight directly through DCL. They both told me the service was only for passengers flying the previous who had to stay over night. Maybe I was misinformed or their policy has changed? We will be staying there again next time and I would love to have DCL take our luggage.

Let me clarify..... we stayed at the Hyatt the night before and purchased disney transfers, but did not book our flight through disney. The transfers are for handling your luggage and transferring them and yourself to port. You may purchase one way transfers or two way transfers. If you did purchase the air from disney, than you would put the transfer tags on your luggage when you check your luggage at the airport. If you did not book air from disney than you would not put your tags on until your arrive at the Hyatt and then put your luggage outside your door by 8:30 am the morning of your cruise. So what I am saying is that I believe you will need to purchase transfers from disney whether you are taking the disney bus to port or not, if you want them to handle your luggage. I agree with Lloyd, I wouldn't take the chance. Please correct me if I was misinformed:wave2:

On our first cruise we did the same as Pippy. Purchased transfers, but not DCL air. When we checked in we informed Hyatt we were with DCL. They asked to see DCL transfer docs in our packet. They told us bags would be picked up no later than 8:30 AM for transfer to DCL buses. The porter arrived at 8:30AM promptly. We stayed in the room until our luggage was picked up, just to be sure....

I agree with Pippy on the DCL air. If you purchase DCL air, reps pick up your luggage directly from the baggage claim area & wisk it away, so you need to pack an overnight bag to use the night before. We brought our luggage up to the Hyatt & checked in. I think that's the difference.

I also agree with Lloyd. I wouldn't take the chance. What if your luggage doesn't get picked up? You're at the Port & luggage is in limbo- not too much wiggle room there. I think dis4me got really lucky! Maybe the Porter thought they paid for transfers & picked it up as it had the tags on it, ready to go? Thank goodness for them! The choices of clothing are limited on the ship- T shirts, Tshirts, or T shirts.

The limo service fully expects baggage to be included in the trip. I would rather know that our bags were delivered to a porter at the Port, than wonder if they made it to the bus....

Why would you expect DCL to transport your luggage if you didn't pay for DCL transportation? Doesn't make any sense to me....

I would check with Hyatt, or DCL before you do this.

REALLY? So when we fly in the night before and stay at the Hyatt, we don't get our bags for that night, they take it to the docks right away?

I did not know that!

Well then, time to rethink the carryons!! *grin*

If you book your air through DCL and they have you arriving the night before and are putting you up at the Hyatt, your docs will tell you NOT to put the cruise tags on the luggage at your home airport and to claim them once you get to MCO. You put them on the bags the morning of the cruise and leave them outside your door. They will not be claimed on the night before the cruise. This is the way it has worked when we've booked air through DCL. It was all spelled out very specifically in the cruise docs. You should have access to your luggage on the night before the cruise and should not have to load up your carry-ons.

Thanks for clarifying that - I dont have my docs yet BECAUSE I booked air w/DCL, so I couldn't check them...this sounds much easier! :teeth:

I certainly don't want to do anything that isn't pc!;) Now I have a cooler question. I have a rolling soft side 54 can capacity cooler, the one they sold at Sam's last year. Are we allowed to take these off the ship to our shore excursions or should we carry discreet , smaller collapsible collers? This is really unclear to me as I've heard different things concerning this!

After reading these posts, I called the Orlando Airport Hyatt and spoke to a representative for guest services/concierge. I explained that we were staying at the hotel next Friday night, and were taking a private limo to the Port for our Disney Cruise on Saturday. I asked whether we could have our luggage picked up outside our room on Saturday morning and transported to the Magic even though we neither booked Disney air nor purchased Disney transfers. This person seemed knowledgeable and assured me that there was no problem with our request. He stated that we should just notify guest services when we checked in on Friday night and we would receive instructions for leaving our bags out on Saturday morning. He stated that our bags would likely get to the port even before we did. Based on my conversation with this person, it seems like a number of people have done this without having Disney air or transfers.

Of course, I plan to call again to see what response I get from another individual. Although taking our own bags would not be too burdensome, it would certainly be more convenient if we could have our bags transported for us (and would also give us more room in the limo). Since the bags are supposed to be picked up at about 8:30 am, and we are not leaving the hotel unitl about 9:30 am, we should be able to insure that our bags are picked up before we leave, assuming that we decide to have Disney/Hyatt transfer them. We'll probably end up "playing it by ear" when we get there.

We'd love to hear if anyone else has recently done this or recently checked with the hotel and/or Disney. Of course, I'll let everyone know what our experience is when we get back.

I wonder if this is driving up the price of transfers (or has the potential to). Just a thought....

In order to have DCL transfer your bags to the ship from the Hyatt at the airport, you must purchase transfers from DCL. A little known fact is that you can purchase just the baggage pickup portion of the transfers if that is all you want. It costs $24 for the first 6 bags and $4 per bag after that. That may sound like a lot, but you normally tip the porters at the port a buck or two per bag and you would not be using them with this service.

Now, what would happen if you did put the tags on your bags and left them outside your door without purchasing the transfers? They would "probably" be sent to the ship, but if anything did happen and the bag was left behind or lost, you would have no recourse (or underwear either).
