We're planning a trip to Southern CA in June. Used to live there, so we're planning to stay about 10 days and do Disney plus other activities. Found the Hyatt and the kids suite. Anyone ever stay there? Input is appreciated! Thanks!

We stayed there. We got the Hyatt Orange County on a Priceline bid, and we upgraded to a kids suite for an extra $40/night (total still came out to under $100). It was fabulous!

The room: DH and I slept on a king bed. The DDs slept in the other room closed off by french doors. The bathroom was big enough to accommodate the 4 of us getting ready in the morning. The DDs had their own TV in their room so when they got up earlier, they got to watch some shows while waiting for us. We also had a microwave and fridge in our room -- convenient to store bottled water and milk. One night, we reheated leftovers from a restaurant visit the night before in the microwave.

The hotel: Nice, friendly staff. The hotel restaurant was very good for breakfast, just a bit on the pricey side. We were never there for lunch or dinner, so cannot comment on that. The hotel was vey clean and well maintained, inside and outside. The pool area was very nice, tho it is not heated, and there were towels for pool use. There's a Starbucks in the lobby, which pleased my coffee addict DH very much. The free shuttle to DL was great, and it seemed to run every 20min.

The location: Nice location, tho further down S. Harbor from DL. You can't really walk that distance, especially after a long day at DL with kids. What we really liked about the location was that it is adjacent to Target, where we picked up a flat of water bottles, snacks, milk, etc. We were also near various restaurants (Crabshack, Outback, Red Robin's, Buca di Beppo).

Cons: The daily parking rate is $14. Yikes!!!

Overall, we LOVED the hotel. We'd stay there again without hesitation. I guess if they didn't have that parking fee, our stay would've been perfect.

We've stayed at the Hyatt Orange County. We loved the kids suite. The "suite" part of it has bunk beds and a tv. Our 7 year old had the whole "kids" part to himself since we kept our 6 month old in our portion of the room in a pack 'n play and it didn't seem cramped at all. We loved the pizza hut in the lobby for a quick late night snack (on the expensive side tho). The shuttle bus did seem to run on time every 20 minutes but we went in December and it was jam packed the whole time. C&M pretty much said it all and I agree with that post. But just thought you'd want to hear a second positive opinion on the hotel. We would definetly stay there again...in fact we are planning on staying there next month when we go!

We will be staying there over Easter break! I am glad to hear of the positive responses. I do wish though we were closer........

Just booked this hotel today, and got an amazing rate with the Entertainment discount!
We booked a one-bedroom, 2 queen beds, suite, since it has the living area. I liked the kids' suite, but it didn't look like it had much living space?
Kind of a bummer not being in walking distance, but I do appreciate the complimentary shuttle, and I really enjoy the full-service hotels!
The rates here (and traveller opinions) really beat out all of the other properties that we looked at!
Can't wait until our trip in August! :cool1:
tmatthews: hope that you will send in a review when you get back from your trip!

I called just now and the Entertainment rate for a kids suite is only $114/night. WOW! I don't have an Entertainment book/card but will get one for that price. Can you tell me what I need to present to them when I check in?

Those rates are great, aren't they?!
I wanted to be a little closer to the parks, but I just can't pass up a good bargain! A huge suite (400 sq. ft.) for that price! Woo Hoo!
They didn't tell me exactly what I needed, but I assume that you must have the Entertainment card with you when you check in, already registered through Entertainment.com (or by phone). They did not ask for my Entertainment card number when I booked. I think that all Entertainment cards are good from Nov. 01 through the next Nov. 01.
I think that we paid $30.00 for our local Seattle book, so I am already ahead by about $400.00!
Also, if you haven't already done so, check Expedia.com, and look at some of the traveller's reviews of this hotel. They give some good tips about dining at the hotel (expensive!), but one said that there are children's *breakfast meals* that are good and inexpensive. I also read somewhere that there is a Target right next door (for bottled water and snacks), and also several restaurants very close by; Buca di Beppo, Red Robin and Joe's Crabshack.

Sorry -
I just reread my posts, and realized that I never gave the rate that I got - can I give rates here?
For August, I was quoted Entertainment rates at the Hyatt for: Kids' Suite (375 sq. ft) $109.95; 1-bedroom suite (2 queens or king) at 400 sq. ft. $119.95; and a 2-bedroom suite at 700 sq. ft. (1 king, 2 queens and sleeper sofa) $169.95.
These rates were substantially cheaper than the AAA, best available, or internet rates.

Thanks for all the info, Nanny! We were going to stay across the street from the parks too but we would much rather have our own bedroom, especially since DS will probably be bringing a friend with him.

I might give them another call and ask what we need to bring when we check in.

We booked through travelocity and picked the Hyatt, airfare to LAX, rented a minivan, and got 5 so. cal. passes for under 4000 for a family of 5 for 9 nights. I will let you know how everything goes there.

cool~ we will be there easter weekend :goodvibes

we also went thru expedia and to fly out of sac roundtrip for 3 adults and 2 children and 3 night hotel stay at the hyatt it was approx $191 per person~ dirt cheap if you ask me

we got our 3 day hopper passes from safeway!

trvlnut:
The rates that I got using the Entertainment rate were nightly, Saturday through the next Monday, in August. No change for my rates for weekend or weeknight.

Not sure of our hotel rates since we booked the whole package through travelocity. I believe through hotels.com I saw it for about 139.oo over the Easter holiday.
Don't forget there though you pay parking......

Not a fan!
1. You pay 15 a day to selfpark or 17 a day for valet. So Valet seems to be the obvious choice except now you feel the need to tip everytime you get your car or bring your car back. (The guys are really nice.)
2. Ate at pizza hut! RIP OFF! Ordered 2 pan pizzas and 2 bread sticks 3 sodas, ..... $40!!!! pp pizza around $9 each! There is a pizza hut on the other side of harbor blvd by target. (pp 3.99!!!) if you must have pizza hut. That is where I did laundry as well. Starbucks usually crowded early AM.
3. Room not ready when we arrived...ok we were early....but at 3 still not ready even after a "RUSH" was put on it! by 4 I was calling to make a change in hotels...suddenly we had a room.....??????
4. Not many drawers or closet space for a kids' suite. 2 end tables, 2 drawers and 1 closet in main room....3 small drawers under 1 bunk.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
++ side,
Target across the street/Cocos a decent family restaurant
refrig and micro in room
paper each AM
exercise equip right at poolside so kids can swim and you can exercise.
beds very comfortable....changed mattresses while we were there.....
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
didn't eat at restaurant
Would spend the $$ and go closer to the parks to get the real feel of DL! Felt a little "out".

tmatthews - so sorry that the hotel didn't work out for you. Thanks so much for giving us your reaction, and opinion, of the hotel...we have been waiting anxiously!
Although we are staying here in August, my main problem is that we are so far away! Did the shuttle work out for you, or did you drive to the park every day?
I solved my problem ( a little bit) by booking our last three nights at the Grand Californian! I hate to pay those rates, but will cut back on my spending here, so that we can splurge a little bit at the hotel! :rolleyes1
Thanks again for your reviews!
Hope that the rest of your trip was great!
Heard there is a big storm headed your way...stay safe! :wave2:

The shuttle was good....however the first one doesn't leave until 1/2 before park opening so no help if you are doing EE. It drops you off in the "white" area which is the furtherest drop off but no tram needed to entry. In the AM it fills up quickly but they sent more shuttles around to accomodate. It goes out on the 30 and 00 and picks up on the 20 and 50 from DL.
Be careful when parking because 2x I went out the wrong exit! One exit is for Mickey Parking and the other is for Timon parking! PAIN To reenter!!!
We took the shuttle one time and drove the other times ....parking is 11 but if you leave you can reenter the parking structure without paying again.
We left sunny CA to terrible weather here...you are right!! lots of flooding and high winds....LOVELY!!!
Have a great time! I am glad you are splurging!!! ENJOY!:thumbsup2
