HWS day transportation question

On our day at HWS, we believe we will finish touring the park between 3-4pm. So we would like to make ADRs at BOMA in AK Lodge. Then return to HWS for the 8pm Fantasmic show.

1) How long would it take to travel from HWS Park to AK Lodge?

I would give an hour each way, then about 90 minutes for dinner at Boma.

You would have to be back at Studios at 6:45pm at the latest to get seating for Fantasmic.

The earliest dinner seating at Boma is at 5pm. If you got the first dinner time, then finished dinner by 5:30 - 5:45 pm, then you "might" make it back. When are you going?? Is Fantasmic showing every night, or is it on it's reduced schedule of a couple nights a week? If it is on reduced schedule, then the lines for Fantasmic show up EARLY and are LARGE.

Quite honestly, if you do want to have dinner away from the park and return for Fantasmic, I would go with a late lunch at the Boardwalk or Yacht or Beach club. Just a short walk away from the Studios.

Wow, an hour each way? Darn, I thought it would have been an 1/2 hour.

We are looking at going Thursday, Sept 16th. Fantasmic is only showing on the 16th and Sun 19th on the week we are at WDW. I figured we'd try on the 16th so if it rained out, we had the 19th as a back-up.

Why so long long for the dinner? Or does that 90 minutes include time we might end up waiting for a table?

Thanks for replying! Our ADRs are due on the 18th and I really want to get them sorted out before the kids break for March. I won't have time to sit down them and plan them out.

The actual driving time, between DHS and AKL, is about 15 mins. But you have to add in the wait time for the bus...that could be up to 20 mins or so, especially midday. I would figure on it taking about 35 mins. Same thing for returning to DHS.
If you are able to get one of the first seatings, you should be seated within 10 mins of your ADR. And then, it shouldn't take more than 45 mins to eat. You don't want to rush, but there's no need to sit and linger unless you want to.
But....it does seem a bit hectic. Is there another night you could eat at Boma??

I was also going to suggest that 35 minutes is reasonable, each way. Add about five minutes at each end to walk to and from your destination.

Unlike GfT, though, I will suggest more than 45 minutes at Boma. It's one of those meals to slow down and enjoy, not just refilling your tank. And if you've not spent much time there before, you'll want to look around the AK Lodge, which is genuinely spectacular.
