DH works for a really large corporation locally. He works in the airport here as a manager. There are about 6 manager's at his level and several over those managers (multi-tiered management system).

Earlier in the year (Feb.) he put in his request for this year of day's he needed off. We go away for our two Birthday's and our anniversary. He requested 5 days for the entire year in total. Now he has a floating schedule so basically they just schedule him off those days.

His immediate boss is a real jerk to say the very least. The boss over him (who is the head guy) is one of those who wants no confrontation and defers all problems to the jerk below to avoid them. (Nice leadership skills).

My birthday is next week and we made our usual plans to go away Sun. and Mon. Our ressies have been made for 6 month's. He offered to work Mon. night vs. taking the whole day off to make it easier on them. Last night the schedules came out and guess what--He's scheduled to begin work on Monday at 4:30 "AM" instead of 1:00 PM. We won't even get home until Noon that day. I am so upset!

This happened for our anniversary just a few month's back. He was given Sun. off but scheduled to work on Mon. His boss (the guy that does the schedules) told him to call in sick that day if he wanted it off!!! Even though he had requested the day off 5 month's prior. He refused to let him switch a day with someone. What bother's him is he "nevers" uses sick days (used 3 in 20 years) and it's on his personnel file that way.

And again, he's working the Labor Day holiday. He hasn't had one holiday off in a year. I understand they all need to rotate between the 6 of them. He's worked Holiday's for more than 20 years so that's not new to us. What I find more upsetting is that 2 people are under him on the totem pole in terms of hire dates and they have had every single holiday off! It's just wrong. He's said something to both managers and they just keep telling him to talk to the other manager! No one ever wants to address the issues but they'd rather sweep them under the rug.

So now--it look's like we'll be cancelling our time away thanks to these jerks. It's either that or he calls in sick which he just won't do and shouldn't have to. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.......

Would it be possible to address the issue with HR? The situation sounds incredibly unfair with no solution possible with management.
