I love how different the gender roles in other couples are. My wife is financially illiterate, and I do all the money and all the significant purchases, plan the vacations, grocery shopping, etc. Money-wise, she mainly does the clothes shopping for herself and the kids (which she does a great job at and I appreciate), but usually has no idea she just spent $500 until she asks me to return some things for her, and I tell her how much she got back.

She always makes fun of me for how much I care about saving money.

This is SOO my husband. He has no idea how much money we have or where it goes. If he wants something he buys it. I do all the bill paying, planning & shopping for the house (I only work PT -15 hours/week). I enjoy doing it and keeping our family on track & knowing that we will retire ok.

I have to agree, husbands are expensive, I think that is one of many reasons we don't have children. He thinks everytime we go in Best Buy he has to have a CD, DVD, or video game.

this is my husband. Or he gets his quarterly bonus at work and goes to buy himself a G-shock watch and $100 in cologne. I was so upset.

So you have to keep buying one or the other until it evens out!

I could've taken OP's post and switched the genders around and it would've fit my marriage perfectly. DW's the one who's the "free spirit" and does things like this on the spur of the moment, and I do the shopping for it or it will be twice as expensive.

It's not a gender thing. To paraphrase Dave Ramsey, it's a "free spirit/nerd" thing.

Well, they would if we set them in front of them. "Most men I know' are fit, athletic and most definitely going for the veggies, salads and fruit. My husband doesn't eat white bread/buns nor hot dogs unless we are on our beach vacation and having a beach fire dinner. We eat low fat/healthy fat, very little red meat, no HFCS, low salt when possible, high fiber and lots of fruits and veggies. We're not perfect but if he/DH was preparing(yep, he'd be doing it) a meal for the guys who work for him, he'd make a huge salad full of wonderful fresh veggies and throw some chicken breast on the grill, with a fruit salad on the side and baked sweet potatoes or sweet potato fries tossed in cinammon and a little sugar. To drink, water, juice and beers-good beers.

VERY THANKFULLY, DH and I are on the same page when it comes to finances.

My DH just went to a golf tournament yesterday. He has been working on this fund raiser for months with the committee. It was $500 a head to play (corporate sponsorships).

He had no intention of playing and planned to just fascilitate and work the event, but he got a call last week saying that someone was unable to make it and did they know anyone who could take his spot (FOR FREE since it was already sponsored.)

DH was able to not only play the $500 round, but he got a gift bag with over $100 in stuff too!

All for FREE!

We love doing expensive things for free or cheap.

My DH bought me a Christmas present a few years ago. All of this friends told him he was crazy to spend that much money. It was a Thomas Kinkade painting. He quickly informed them that I never pent any money and that when I ask for something I pretty much get it. I don't wear jewelry, I own shoes that are 4 and 5 years old, except my tennis shoes. I love purses, but I only have 2, one is 5 years old and the other is 8 months old. He tells everyone, that he is the spender and I am the saver.

Hubby's closet space is twice the size of mine, and his is completely full where as mine isn't. His 10 suits also are $300+, where as $300 buys me TONS of clothes. Thankfully, he was given most of those suits, but when they have to be replaced, it will be huge expenses.

I have one more pair of shoes than DH.

I just bought two new pairs of shoes, one is dress shoes and one was for my sisters wedding. Most of my shoes are more than 2 years old. Some shoes are more than 5 years old.

Yes, I do have more purses than he has wallets. But he also has a lot more hats than I have, a lot more belts than I have. Shall I go into all of his CD's and video games? I have probably purchased on average, 10 purses in the past 10 years. I have 8 of them still.

Other than the jewelry that I make for myself (paying for it with the jewelry that I sell), I have my wedding rings and one other ring. I have one pair of diamond earings (10 year anniversary) and two necklaces, both are more than 5 years old.

Nope, and neither do I. We have our wedding dishes and his Grandmother's Fostoria (which is 40+ years old).

It is entirely possible. But he also wouldn't be remotely as happy as he is. I guess having a house big enough for our children makes it expensive and fancy.

I'm sorry that your wife will cost you hundreds of thousands. Perhaps the two of you should discuss finaces a little better and possibly see a counselor about how much money your wife costs you.
In comparison, my husband has a lot more than a handful of video games. He also has his instruments, his golf clubs, his assorted electronics and his own collections.

My husband has a different line of work than most, but I'm currently preparing a shopping list for his dinner this weekend. Currently the total is 91 people. I'm making at least 200 cupcakes, the main entree, various side dishes, etc.


I'm sure the OP didn't mean to imply that EVERY husband is expensive, just as I'm sure (or at least I'm hoping) that you don't mean to imply that EVERY wife is more expensive than her husband. Because I can assure you, my husband would say I'm not.

My husband doesn't eat white bread/buns nor hot dogs unless we are on our beach vacation and having a beach fire dinner. We eat low fat/healthy fat, very little red meat, no HFCS, low salt when possible, high fiber and lots of fruits and veggies. We're not perfect but if he/DH was preparing(yep, he'd be doing it) a meal for the guys who work for him, he'd make a huge salad full of wonderful fresh veggies and throw some chicken breast on the grill, with a fruit salad on the side and baked sweet potatoes or sweet potato fries tossed in cinammon and a little sugar. To drink, water, juice and beers-good beers.

Fine. Who really cares, you are the one that pretty much insulted the OP, it was hotdogs for goodness sake. No biggie, most men love them.

I guess you are just better than the rest of us. But I will take my hotdogs chips and stuff like that for junk food days. The rest of the time we eat healthy, but sometimes you have to have the junk food, and it doesn't make us any less than you.

Wow, sounds like you really resent your wife's purchases....glad my husband isn't that way! Now of course, I only own 2 purses....both from a Target type store and one is 20 years old. We have closets the same size and he actually has more clothes because I am a SAHM and he needs work clothes. I have my wedding rings, a pair of diamond earrings and some other cheapie jewelry. I do have more shoes as a woman in my world cannot get away with his bare bones 2 pair of works shoes, 2 pairs of tennies and pair of sandals. I have probably have 12 pairs of shoes, almost all of them worn more than 10-20x and many more than 5 years old. None of them are designer, but most are good brands made for style and comfort.

My DH and were lucky to find each other as we have very comparable spending styles. Sorry you weren't so lucky.

His and her closets? I wish! He def. has more clothes than me. I have 1 pair of jeans, he has 4. I have 3 pairs of shorts, he has about a dozen. I have a weeks worth of panties, he has an entire drawer full of boxers. Etc.

Well, I do have more shoes. 4 pairs more. But most of mine are cheap flip flops or flats. I have 1 pair of "expensive" shoes - my running shoes. Oh, forgot about my ugly Uggs. MIL got them for me for Christmas like 5 years ago. I wear them to class almost every day in the winter. Dollar wise, he's got me beat.

Excluding 1 dressy pair, that gets pulled out for funerals and such (about as often as his much more expensive suit costs), a LOT. I pretty much wear my shoes until they start falling apart. I have 2 pairs of shoes less than 1 yr old - a $10 pair of flip flops and my running shoes, which get replaced about every 6 months. He gets new tennis shoes every 3-4 months.

Purses? Me - none. Him - probably 1. My mom bought me both Coach purses that I don't use, and my SIL bought me my Vera Bradley tote that I almost never use. (It was a great dance bag while DD was in dance though.) I just shove my money & id in my pocket and go. His wallets are pretty much always gifts.

Dude has quite a bit of man jewelry... And I am admittedly not a jewelry kinda gal. No diamonds or precious stones for me. I did have a cheap beaded necklace I wore every day until it broke over a year ago. I've yet to replace it.

No, but I don't either. Some of towels are still one we got for our wedding, 10.5 years ago. We get new bedding when our old stuff wears out. Etc.

So what you are saying is your dh would probably decline the invite the OP's dh's generous meal then.

OP, I think what your dh did for his crew was great and I'm sure even though it wasn't a gourmet, low fat healthy meal served with beer, good beer I mean, his crew appreciated it very much

I am not a true expert on bun and hot dog counts on why they are packaged each way. But here goes...

Hamburger buns are typically packed 8 buns to a package (or larger), but the way a standard baking tray works, its a double row, four long bake. It is then packaged as a "folded over" item. Stacked 2 high, which helps with shipping and handling to ensure no smashed items.

Hot dog buns, which also typically come 8 to a pack, are the same bun cut as a hamburger bun. Instead of going thru a rounder then getting proofed, they go thru a rounder THEN a sheeter then get proofed.

Just an easy way to switch assembly from hamburger to hot dogs without switching the whole production and bun cuts.

Now, why hot dogs come in the packaged ways that they do is beyond me.
