usually we bring a ton of cash around with us...but this coming sept trip ive decided i dont think its safe to bring a ton of cash around god forbid ya loose ur wallet ya know ? i figured we could have our Debit card hooked up to our room key and have the tips taken from there when we eat our dinners... we will have 3 other people with us my mom , DH's aunt and mil... Am i being cheap? Isnt it much easier to have your own check be responsible for your OWN tips drinks or w/e instead of trying to calculate everything out in the end and then on top of it worrying if someone feels like they got cheated?

I gotta say I'm with you on this one. It always seems like somebody will not have the cash on them to pay you back or they'll pay you back later or something like that. I am ALWAYS the one that gets screwed in the end.

By the way, I wouldn't consider that being "cheap". I think it's just going to be simpler for all involved. (except maybe the wait staff)

Separate checks seems simple and easy! It's the way I'd go too.

If your husband is feeling 'cheap', did he intend to pay for everyone in the first place?

I'd rather that everyone had their own bill and it be all up front. I'd feel more cheap chasing after family to get them to pay their share.

No he wasnt intending to pay for anyone so i dont know what his problem is... He thinks i worry too much about money. But you kow what money is a touchy subject and its not something i want to deal with and i most certainly would not like to deal with bitter people or me being bitter over money on *MY* vacation that people invited themselves to join me on.

Exactly!

Splitting up the checks will be SO much easier and it will make it easier for everyone to enjoy.

Your not-invited family (I have some of those myself ;) ) will probably feel more comfortable getting a bill and paying the restaurant directly rather than paying you. If you give them a total they will always wonder - should that have been the $32.62 that she asked for or the $32.15 that I thought it should be.

. . . and i most certainly would not like to deal with bitter people or me being bitter over money on *MY* vacation that people invited themselves to join me on.

YOU'VE GOT THAT RIGHT!!! :thumbsup2 I will be in your boat in 2009. It seems that my SIL has decided that it would be a "great idea" to go with us because we're "so experienced." At first I didn't mind the idea of them tagging along because I didn't intend to change my plans for them. Now, I'm wondering if that is going to be possible. Their idea of traveling together, and mine are not the same. They want to spend every waking minute together, and I just want to do meals together. (I will likely find the nerve between now and 2009 to let her know that, but for now I'm already stressing over it. :lmao: ) Anyway, I feel the same as you about the separate checks. I will just add that to my list of "Pre-Travel Understandings & Agreements" that will be presented and discussed in the months before the trip. ;)

Are you all in the same room? If you are then your debit card will be attached to all of their cards unless you eliminate charging privs. for them--just to warn you to be sure they have no charging privs on thiers. ALso if you are not in the same room, but on the DDP they will have to ring it separately anyhow since each "room" has credits associated with it.
BTW if you are all sharing a single room--bless you as you will be cramped at best!

no we have seperate rooms.

no we have seperate rooms.

Let your DH know that you are not being cheap, but helpful. The server will need to separate credits by room card anyway and having each party order what they want and deducting the DDP credits from each room is the way the server will have to separate them anyway. A few years ago we went with my parents and my sister and her children. We were three families in three rooms. We had to tell the server at the begiining of the meal that we were on the DDP and that we needed separate checks. At the time tips were included, but the server had to deduct the credits by room. My parents were 2 adults, my sister had 1 adult, 1 child and 1 infant and I had three adults and one child. You don't want your credits to be messed up if they deduct the wrong number of TS from your card.

If you have seperate rooms and you are on the DDP, you'll have to get seperate checks. Your keys to the world card will list the number of TS credits that you can use.
