After years looking at campers, we finally found our perfect home away from home this past summer. :cool1:

Now I am steadily trying to convince my husband to bring the camper down to Disney! He's not going for it. He says it would be too much work, blah blah blah.

No idea when we would do it, probably in the summer one year. I'd like to stay 2 weeks with 1 week worth of park days and other days to just do stuff on the lake, etc.

Help me talk him into it....PLEASE  He is a party pooper. I think it would be a ton of fun!!!

What does he think is too much work? You already have a camper so he must be ok with camping. Do you go camping different places or do you keep it on a seasonal or permanent site? Maybe he's afraid to tow it. Or at least longer distances.

Honestly, the Fort is less 'work' than lots of other places I've camped.

I mean, camping is camping. There's the setup and tear down, but its all the outdoors, swimming, walks, biking, sitting in the fold up chairs reading, everything that makes camping fun.

Then you get to add everything that the Fort is. Campfire movies and sing alongs, looping, fishing, riding the boats places, horses, shopping, Hood-Dee-Do and the parks.

Tell you what. If hubby doesn't want to go, drop a note on here. You will have plenty of volunteers to tow/drive your camper to the Fort and enjoy a lovely camping trip with their newest forum friend. :)

Way back before we had a camper I wanted to fly down and tent it at the Fort...never could convince my DH, but did convince him to go once we got our pop-up. The way I convinced him? We took an afternoon one day when we were down at WDW and rented bikes at the Fort and just checked the whole thing out. Once you experience the ambiance it is hard to say no!

This is easy. $100 on per night on property vs. $500 + per night at some of the deluxe resorts.
I stayed at Poly last year and still found myself spending a quiet day at FW.
Camping at the Fort is great. Nice, clean, shaded sites with great bath houses. Ton of things to do and a variety of nice campers to chat.
Towing long distance can be trying but oh so nice to set up once for 10 day trips.
Good Luck and I hope you convince him:)

Our first visit was in a cabin, we were hooked. So if all else fails book a cabin. ;)

Or you could show him the info re renting an RV at FW (the rental company sets it up and takes it down for you). Then he could choose between flying down and renting one or he will probably say, "Heck, we have our own RV, it would be cheaper to just do it ourselves."

Remind him that you don't have to set up camp completely if you stay overnight enroute. You can use a pull through site at a KOA, for instance, and just sleep without doing major set up chores.

And it is so much healthier and less expensive to have meals in the RV instead of eating out everytime.

If you have pets, an RV saves you a bording fee.

. . . Help me talk him into it . . .

1) Being a guy, I can understand his thinking.
2) It is wrong regarding The Fort.
3) But, I can understand the thinking.
4) When MrsRustyScupper wants me to do something, she has a good way of convincing me.
5) She first tries to politely discuss.
6) When I refuse to go along, she asks me
. . . how would I like to cook my own food?
. . . how would I like to do the grocery shopping?
. . . how would I like to do ALL my own laundry? (the strongest agrument)
7) I usually capitulate.

Does your wife have a sister...? If so, I may be your brother-in-law!

Other options of doing Disney are just more work for me. I have to find a pet sitter, I have to budget for meals out per day and shorten my stay. Plus having to cut down what I can pack to avoid paying too many fees. In the end its no less work to be here then to fly down, though flying takes less overall time the level of effort is no less in my book. But I am not a fan of flying and dealing with the airports either.

If that's the case we are probably all related by marriage then...
Ever heard of The Man Song? http://humor.beecy.net/menwomen/mansong/

To be honest, I got hooked looking at pictures that people posted on the boards, and like someone suggested, we went over and toured it while on our first vacation to Disney in 2009. It was easy to convince my wife, she is a huge germaphobe, so I showed her that 20/20 episode with the blacklight and hotel sheets and that was that...

If all else fails you could pull what the Scupper suggested, only there was another thing that he left out that you ladies...uhhumm...are in control over...uumm...and, well...

Is that the same episode where the maid cleans the toilet, then with the same rubber gloves still on cleans the drinking glass with windex?
Oooooooooo :scared: the horror...

And don't get me started on what one thread was talking about - what people used their coffee pots for!! :crazy2: :faint:

We do not use hotels 'ever' unless in a bind/emergency. I prefer our clean bed, bathroom, kitchen, sitting areas, privacy, etc. etc. etc. ::yes::

OP, don't really know what else to add to what's been said - sorry, but I think the rest is up to you!! ;)

For the OP,

I would go down the road of, "well we have this trailer. Let's try camping at the Fort this time". And I agree with the others - he will probably enjoy it.

I don't know what OP's DH means by too much work or the blah blah blah.... It can be a lot of fun planning the trip, mapping out how you'll drive down, and where (if) you will need to stop off on your journey to get to the Fort. Show him some pictures posted on the many trip reports from the great people on this Disboard. Photos of the stables, the beach, Trails End, the pool, fishing, squirrels, happy campers relaxing at their campsite. Show him all the pictures and then ask him if it looks like too much work. The excitement of planning and then executing a trip to Fort Wilderness causes laughter, conversation and closeness. If you can generate a spark from the Party Pooper, it will be so worth it. Best of luck.

My advice is give him time. Not knowing what you bought or your Disney experiences including the Fort I can only guess. First he is right. Towing all the way from Texas is a job. He will have to probably do all the hook ups. Then all the driving/towing which can be real work depending on the camper and weather. Then finally he has to get everything set up before he can start to enjoy it.

First try to camp regionally close to home as much as possible. The more you go the more you learn what works and what doesn't. He will get used to having his own stuff and bed with him.

Second try to get him interested in all the Fort has to offer besides just a camp site at Disney. Maybe take a day trip during your next Disney trip to explore. This alone may make your argument for you. We love the Fort and the perk of having our stuff with us. It makes it feel more like home. Each trip we get more involved in the Fort.

Third you can always resort to begging and bargaining. I can never deny my wife something she really wants. Maybe he will agree to try it just once.

Thank you all. I am going to start reading everything to him.

What he means by too much work is exactly what Flametamr said. Having to pull this bad boy from Texas to FL. We have stayed at KOA's on the way home from NC last year (which is where we bought the camper). That was a lot of fun! Took us 3 days to get home when it normally takes a day and a half. ;) Our oldest boys help with the set up but the pain comes in making sure that the thing is level. Takes forever at some sites and my husband is a perfectionist, won't stop moving until that bubble is centered perfectly. :thumbsup2
