Well, it appears I will be running the 10K solo as we confirmed my husband had his big toe broken playing futsal (indoor soccer) on Friday. He's got the boot and we've rented him a scooter after much debate because his foot tires easily - he's not even able to hobble around the block with our dog without stopping 6 or 7 times (he's stubborn so he still tries - & yes I go too so he really doesnt have to :rotfl:).

I see conflicting reports as to whether we need to get a card or not since we will have the scooter. I was hoping he could just use the cart to drive from attraction to attraction so we could just stand in the normal line and wouldn't have to bother with anything but I don't think there will be enough healing between now and then. Should we stop by GS and get one? Or is the scooter enough/do all the CMs at the lines have little slips to pass out?

TIA & please don't think we are just trying to beat the system - with every ounce of our being we wish his big toe was not broken so he could race with me! I've never done this solo and am more than a little nervous/sad. This has really, really f'ed our plans up!! :sad1::headache::hug:

You won't need a card with the scooter. I was just there two weeks ago using a scooter. What they do now for most of the rides in DL is give you a return time. They actually scan your tickets now. They tell you the time to return and then when you come back they scan your tickets again. We did that for all the big rides, but stuff like fantasyland, I just parked the scooter and waited in lines. Even those rides though will accomodate you if you can't wait in a line. We did get a return time for Peter Pan as the line was too long for me to stand in. The way they do it now, it's like you are waiting in line, you just don't have to stand there and wait. It worked great for us.

DCA is different as most of the ride lines can accomodate the scooter so you just get in the regular line!

Hope that helps!

I think this is the missing piece of the puzzle, thank you! I kept seeing that you didnt need a card but you got times so I had no idea how that worked without the card, thank you! Did they give you extra time to get in/out? I'm scared for him getting in and out of space mountain, matterhorn, pirates ETC where you have to step down INTO the vehicle... was that an issue at all? Or can they stall?

Were people nice in the Fantasyland queues if you had to stop and rest? He has to stop often currently before he gets very far. Not to mention how scared I am that someone is accidentally going to step on his foot... He winces even taking his socks on and off. I'm not allowed within a foot of his foot!

They will give him time! DL is great about dealing with all of that! He won't be rushed. Even the rides like Haunted Mansion will stop the ride so he can get on without having to deal with the moving walkway!!

Generally, there's really no place in the line to "stop and rest". Other than just stopping walking and standing on one foot. There aren't benches and such for the most part.

Some of the rides will have a section of the ride that is separate from the main track that you will load onto... so rides like S/M a whole ship will be waiting for you off to the left side of the main track, you will take your time getting in, then they will push your ship onto the main track and you will be off, when the ride is over , they will tell you to stay in the ride move you forward and then push you over to the left again.
RSR- and TSM there is section that again will be for wheelchairs etc, and it is apart from the main track and when you are ready you will be moved onto the main track.
Autotopia - he will go down a one person elevator and you will go down the stairs and meet him. they will make you wait on the squares near the stairs before calling you up to get in the cars. and will allow you all time you need .
Small world you will go down the ramp on the left and they will direct you on how to get on..
POTC - you will go down the alley and enter through the exit, and they will make you park your wheels on the right side of the gate and then let you get on.
most of the FL rides you will enter via the exits and they will allow you the time needed..
GRR . they can stop the moving walk way to allow you to get on or off.

Luigi's tires , he will be in a separate shoot off to the left and they will bring a tire into.. allow him to get settled and then shoot him out as the ride starts.. if he makes his way over to the far side, when the ride ends he will get a little extra ride to get back to the shoot.. this is the time I sit there and wave like the royal I was meant to be.. :rotfl2:

When you get to DL go to city hall and ask them for the alternative entrance pamphlet . it will tell you how to get onto all the rides... :) have a great trip.

Thank you for all the answers so far!! :goodvibes

Maybe I should have just said stopped..? On our walks so far he just needs to stand on one foot for a minute or two relaxing his leg before he can walk again. I would hate for people to be impatient and try to push past us and step on him.... (yes I am a fretter).

Great thread as I, too, use a scooter but have not been back since the new system was in place. Thanks!

Since I am writing here I will ask, how many people can "wait in line" with you if they are doing the scan your ticket and return later thing? This coming trip we will be a group of 8 total. I think I heard it was a max of 6 before. Any ideas?

I went to Boston a few years ago with a broken ankle. In that awful boot. I purchase a cane that had a small seat attached to it. Open it up and sit down. Very nice gadget. Used while in line for USS Constitution.

I recommend checking the stickies at the top of the disABILITIES board. They have answers to many questions regarding scooters in the parks and are a great resource for those with both permanent and temporary disabilities.
