Hey guys,
As I've been working more and more hours lately, I noticed my legs and feet hurt worse than usual. In fact, the backs of my legs look almost bruised in areas. I'm only 25, I don't want varicose or spider veins!! I wear support pantyhose to try and help, but apparently it doesn't at the moment.
Does anyone have any advice to offer? I'm in agony when I come home and wake up in the morning!

Go see a doctor. You might need to have some sort of orthopedic appliance to wear in your shoes. I had the same sort of problem many years ago and when I went to the doctor he order shoe inserts (my arch is too high). My son has flat feet and he requires appliances of a different kind. There are many reasons for needing the appliances but often folks don't realize there is a problem with their feet until they spend a lot of time standing or walking.

Do you wear good supporting shoes with THICK soles. Standing on concrete is the worse. If it feels like muscle aches and soreness, you can try taking extra magnesium. It really helps with sore muscles.

I am a nurse and sometimes after a long shift my legs would ache so badly it would keep me from sleeping. I began wearing rubber clogs and it rarely happens anymore. If it would be within your dress code you might consider those.

Support stockings were designed to help weak veins pump blood in your legs back up against gravity so it doesn't pool in the tissues. So even though your legs still hurt the stockings may still be doing what they were designed to do.

With all that said, you should have a checkup with your internist to evaluate the bruising on your legs. It may be varicose veins but it could also be something more serious. Good luck.

When I first started working in retail I had the same problems that you are having. I tried all sorts of orthotics and stockings as well. Finally I found a pair of shoes that fit perfectly and bought two pair.

I would go see the doctor if I were you, I think I got lucky with the shoes. At least you can figure out what it is not......

Good luck and keep us posted,

Linda

Yep, I agree with everyone here!

Go to the Dr. though, I started having issues over a year ago with my feet. My toes started hurting and then my feet got really swollen and I couldn't walk! It was horrible! The Dr. gave me some really strong anti-inflammatories and the problem went away! Yea!!!

I don't waitress anymore so that certainly helps but I do miss the money.....:(

Hope you feel better, Steph!

When I was pregnant I had to wear something called Teds(pretty sure that was the name). They were like super heavy duty support stockings. I know some of the nurses wore them also. HTH
