Is anyone else traveling to US/IOA from the 7-12th? I am terrified that my vacation will be ruined by the weather/hurricanes! I don't have flexible travel dates and have been looking forward to this trip for almost a year now! I have never been to US and would really like someone to put me at ease!

Don't worry about something you can't control. Plus...unless I missed something, there is no local forecast even mentioning a tropical system coming to this area anytime soon. Of course forecasts change but again...you can't control the weather so just try to enjoy the excitement of your upcoming trip.

I know it is easy for us to say (but I did live in Panama City Florida for 5 years so have a little experience) but please don't worry. The chances of a hurricane significantly effecting Orlando are slim. Go on your vacation and enjoy yourself, if in the unlikely event anything might head Orlando way it is not like a tornado you get a few days warning and can make a decision based on the information you receive from the local authorities.

I actually 'evacuated' to Orlando when a Hurricane in the gulf was churning. The military installation I was working at closed and while everyone was heading North to get out of the way and got stuck in traffic I headed south on a quiet west coast road and had a wonderful time. It was cloudy and rained a little but it was quiet, we walked on all the rides during the summer! By the way those people who headed north all got hit as that is where the rain and wind went.

Hurricane Earl is passing NC today and tonight, and is 800 miles from Florida. Hurricane Fiona is not expected to come anywhere close to the US coast at this point. You should be fine.

Thank you all so much for trying to ease my fears. I have been checking the weather like crazy and I know it's just me being paranoid. According to weather.com, it looks like thunderstorms for our entire stay.:sad2: However, I went to WDW almost the same time last year and the weather was fine. I just don't want it to rain on my parade! Thanks again!

It rains a lot in Orlando but you just roll with it. When we go it typically threatens a lot and only actually rains occasionally in brief spells. Chances are that the rain won't be much of a bother.

It rains in Orlando regardless of if there is a hurricane near or not. Most afternoons when it is warm you can expect a storm. Most are brief and leave just as quick as they came. People put on rain poncho's and carry on touring or get into a ride that is inside. Some rides will shut down if lightening is near think - roller coasters and water rides. If that happens we either find something else that is open or take a break in somewhere cool and sit down with a drink/snack.

We checked the farmers almanac and they are saying no hurricanes after Earl which they predicted would hit around Sept 1-2 so far they are right on the nail. We travel to Orlando for IOA and WDW in October 5wks 5days to go:banana:

Haven't really had a bad hurricane down here since 2005, in my opinion. Every year they hype it up, saying it's going to be a horrible year with tons of storms. I don't want to jinx it, but it hasn't been that bad in awhile. August is usually the worst month anyways. The other months don't really seem to be all that active.

I'm sure you'll be fine! :)
