Hurricanes....yikes!!!!

All you Florida residents, please calm my fears... When a hurricane, for instance: Hurricane Dennis, hits the coast of Florida, what is the weather like in Orlando since it is a little more inland? Does it look like it does on t.v. w/all the palm trees bent downwards and winds blowing hard or is it more mellow? I'm soooo scared. I leave in 9 days and I'm so scared that my flight will be delayed or cancelled and/or we'll get stuck in this scary hurricane.

We were in Orlando for Hurricane Frances last year and the Disney properties are very well protected. We didn't lose power and felt very safe. Dennis isn't even going through Orlando so you will most likely have rain and winds but that should be it. I doubt they will even close the parks. Years ago I lived in Panama City, FL and saw many hurricanes hit and cause lots of damage.

We were at POFQ during Hurricane Jeanne last september. Hit on day 3 of our vacation.

They closed the parks for the day and asked guests to remain in their rooms.

We hit the local Goodings (grocery store - we had a rental car) the night before and got some munchies to have in the room. The resorts played Disney movies all day on certain channels (I remember POTC being one of them.)

We had an outer room - facing the parking lot - it really wasn't that bad. Yes there were down trees/bushes/etc...but we felt pretty safe. Never lost power either.

All in all...yes it kinda sucked being stuck in a room all day (it was just DH and I..>I really feel bad for those that had to keep young kids entertained)...but it wasn't horrible

we're going back again in September this year...no fear.
