The parks will stay open unless there is a major hurricane coming and/or lightning within a certain mile radius. In the case of lightning...they will shut down all outdoor rides until the storm passes. In the case of a hurricane...they will shut down the parks only if they feel guests safety can not be certain. In 2004 with Charley, I think the parks closed one day...that's it. The rest of the time it was business as usual.

We were there right in the middle of Tropical Storm Fay. The rides outside were shut down several times due to heavy rains and winds. The inside rides were all open. We got stuck at the park and at the Portofino when the boats canceled their runs. Our boat rammed the dock. Most of the onsite restaurants closed and the ones that were opened offered a limted buffet. We went to Sal's and stayed in our room. The boats resumed late at night and oh, the elevators stopped working. We put on ponchos and braved the weather but never will I go to Orlando during hurricane season again. It wasn't worth getting soaked to the bone and now sitting at home sick. IMHO.:goodvibes

the on site hotels have a weather cancellation policy.
due to extreme weather, hurricanes, etc, you can cancel at any time with no penalty.

if you live in an area where tornados have hit and your airport is closed down, you can cancel with no penalty.

if you are going to drive to one of the on site hotels and a hurricane is about to hit, you can cancel with no penalty, even on the day you are to check in.

This is good to know because we are going to be there 12-14 of Sept, next weekend. They are forecasting Ike to hit right now South Florida around Tuesday or Wednesday before we go. I hope it goes more north and avoids us alltogether. We also have Blue Man Group tickets that are paid for, they told me that they are non-refundable, maybe that would be refunded also. We really want to go so hope it does not hit.
