Hurricane Worries

Hi All!

I haven't been to the DIS boards in a long time, but I need some help and I figured this is the best place to find it.

My boyfriend and I are leaving for WDW on Friday (9/1). Our flight is at 7:45 p.m. I am just really worried about Hurricane Ernesto and how it will interfere with our plans. I was thinking we could take and additional day off of work and try to leave Thursday, but we'd still be caught in it.

I know its 6 days a way, but I'm a worrier by nature.

Any advice you can give me on what to do or how to approach this would be appreciated.

I was looking at that hurricane, and if you look close it looks like it will miss FL and go straight to the Gulf, but then again I dont study these things so I dont know if youll get anything from it or not. But anyways have a great trip!!!!

Don't worry! I was at WDW when hurricane Charley was there, it was very safe and where I stayed (Pop Century), the power never went out, as a matter of fact all of WDW did not loose power, the staff was excellent, gave us free meals, very concerned about the well being of it's guests. The parks opened up the next day and was business as usual, a few trees down here and there, but you would never knew a storm blew thru. Still go on your trip WDW is a Happy and Safe place.

The Weather Channel shows it hitting the panhandle of FL.

here's the latest. keep your eyes on him. nothing is set in stone. this time yesterday they had him heading dorectly at me! btw...i have these images set up so they will update on their own. good luck down there...actually, good luck anywhere from the keys to LA/TX border.

that's the big ??? ernesto has greatly slowed his forward speed. he was moving 15-17 mph yesterday and is down to 9 mph right now. anyone from the fl keys to SE LA needs to be on alert from thursday till sunday.

I hope it doesnt ruin anyones plans at the World. But hopefully itll be long gone and no more will arise when I am there on Sept 12-17, thats been a big worry for me!!!!

I am leaving tommorrow afternoon. I had to turn off the news, because it was freaking me out. Visitors to the Fl keys have been asked to evacuate and the entire state is under a state of emergency. I guess its better to be safe than sorry. With all the stuff on the news, I have decided I don't really want to be there during a hurricane. As of now, I'm going. I only have until about 1200 tommorrow to change my plans. Ugh!

Yes, but hope central Florida (Me and the Mouse ) has any electricity Friday.

Hope you're driving from AL or flying direct. Friday Ernie is about over Atlanta. Air travel nationwide at the start of a holiday weekend is going to be messed up bigtime if Ernie shuts down ATL Friday noon. Could take all weekend to straighten out. Unles Ernie goes north over DC/NYC and it will be after Labor Day before they get all the planes repositioned.

Won't be any water inside the planes, but lots outside.

so, what is everyone's suggestion ~ leave NYC this Wed 8/30 for our annual WDW trip through Labor Day or reschedule ??? We are a bit unsure? What does it look like it will do Wish I had a magic ball! What would you do? TIA Almost there...... i think...

i think you'll be fine. you might get a little rain and some wind, but nothing to really worry about.

We were there exactly this time last year when Opehilia was just offshore on the eastern side of WDW. The weather forecast looked ominous, but we enjoyed the parks almost ourselves. No waiting for rides! Test Track told us to undue our lap belt and fasten if back and stay seated if we wanted to go again! Space Mountain CMs were telling us how to circumvent the lines to keep from walking all the way bay back out and around. It was WONDERFUL. I counted about 20 people as far as I could see from the exit of Space Mountain after our third ride in a row. At Epcot my wife walked right up to Mickey for a photo op and most of the other characters didn't have anybody wanting pictures and were standing there talking to the CMs. It was a truly magical moment for us, like we had the park to ourselves! It was not raining or anything, but the hurricane was looming just offshore. Loved It!!!!

Hey, what's a little wind and rain? we're wash and wear after all! I certainly can sympathize with you about being nervouse! we are going the second week of October and I will be watching the weather forcast LIKE A HAWK! I figure as long as I'm not in the air when they come through, no biggy. We have read so much about DW being prepared for these things that I am not really worried as far as they are concerned. Just go and HAVE FUN...don't let the weather stop you, I WON'T! Helen

Right, now the main concern is will my flight on Friday night leave. I'm hoping it all clears through Thursday and MCO is open Friday. Thankfullly, we havea direct flight, so we just have to hope we have a plane! I travel about once a month for work and I have terrible luck.

I think I will be glued to the weather channel over the next few days.

From The Weather Channel as of Sunday, August 27th, at 7:30 p.m.

Ernesto weakend dramatically Sunday afternoon and was downgraded to a tropical storm. Top winds are estimated to be near 60 mph, mainly in thunderstorms to the northeast of the center of circulation. Ernesto has been moving just off the Haiti coast and interaction with the mountainous terrain of Haiti is believed to have weakened the system. Ernesto will still have interaction with the Haitian coast through tonight, which could weaken the tropical storm even more. Tomorrow Ernesto is forecast to move toward Cuba and could have a small window of opportunity to strengthen before making landfall in the early afternoon. Ernesto is forecast to remain over Cuba for about 24 hours before emerging into the Florida Straits Tuesday afternoon.

Woo hoo!! We leave on Wednesday bright and early for WDW at 7:00 a.m. Hopefully it'll keep getting weaker so everyone can get to Disney safe and sound!!
