the free dining plan is in hurricane season:sad2: we live in texas and had two hit our town last year. we want to go at this time, but are worried. have any of you had a hurricane hit while you were their.

Yes. It was a couple of years ago, and in the morning the parks were closed. DS was a baby, so we stayed in our room at POFQ. I don't really think it was that bad, I never felt unsafe. My mother went to the food court to grab some snacks, and it was very windy. When we were able to leave the rooms later, we saw more effects of the hurricane, trees down and the like, but no real structural damage in the World. I believe that their architecture is built to withstand those types of winds/inclement weather. Hope that's somewhat helpful. :)

I have never been to the World during a hurricane but we were there for a tropical storm. It was windy and rainy. Magic Kingdom was nearly empty. No lines for any ride. We even found rare characters while getting out of the weather.

2004 was a bad year for the Orlando area due to hurricanes. Prior to 2004, there had not been a hurricane hit the area for 40 years. Odds are good that your trip will not be impacted by a hurricane.

Yup, 2004 was the worst. We were on a cruise expected to stop in Port Canaveral for the day and had a shore excursion planned to go to WDW and meet family. The port was destroyed (or so they told us) and we couldn't dock. We went to Key West instead, it was nice but we had to leave within 4 hours as Hurricane Frances was leaving Hurricane Ivan was on his way.

Our family was in WDW, and they never felt unsafe. It was just rainning hard and very windy. Good day for Disney Quest :)

I doubt this year will be as severe, you can always cancel should the weather get bad. I was able to reschedule by a few days when a bad winter storm hit NYC. Disney was very accommodating, no fees to change the dates.

I'm trying to convince DH to go for free dining, but he ain't buying it! :rotfl:

We live outside Tampa and in 2004 when it looked like the hurricane was coming this way our neighbors fled to Orlando, so of course it went that way instead!

I wouldn't let it impact your planning. Orlando is so far inland it would take a really rare storm to cause problems.

I live in Texas too! Beaumont area. It is my theory that I have just as good a chance of being hit here as I do in Disney, so we might just as well be in Disney for it!

My brother's motto "if a hurricane is heading for Disney, so is he". They pack it up and head on down. He said the parks are empty and they always have a great time !

We were there for our honeymoon in Sept. of 99.....the week after we left the parks closed for a day because of a hurricane.

I wonder if they give you a refund for your park passes when they close the park?:confused3

WDW has some of the best built structures in the state, hurricane wise. FD is definitely in hurricane season. We used that promo 3 yrs in a row, and I was worried the first time around, but the next two was just fine. I guess the little extra I spent on travel insurance helped ease my mind too!

We live in NW FL but will be heading south to WDW if a hurricane heads towards our part of the state. :)

My sister was there when they closed for the day. And yes, they were reimbursed...If I remember right, and don't quote me, I think they were given a one day pass for the future for each member of the party. I don't think they were credited money.

They don't close often, so I wouldn't worry about it. We love going in Sept. The parks are pretty empty as it is, so a hurricane warning would really empty it out. :-) We've never had a problem.

I live in Southern MS and since we are just about as likely to get a lovely hurricane here as there I wouldn't worry about it to much. Hopefully it will be another uneventful season for us. After Katrina we could all use a few more hurricane free years!

Half of the year is Hurrican Season ;) . We live in southern Louisiana and visit Disney every year in September/October. We've never been in a storm while on vacation there. I think that they have some sort of reservation protection in place now so that you can reschedule if there is a storm about to hit Orlando before your trip.

Hurricane season starts June 1st and ends November 1, so you could have one there at anytime. And in 05 they were naming Hurricanes in December. I live in South MISS and know lots of people who will head to Orlando during a hurricane.

That's why they offer this promotion at this time of year. They want to make sure that people still fill the parks during Hurricane season.

We were there fo Hurricane Jeanne in 2004. We were actually due to fly home that Saturday but then found out that the airport was closing early and we going to have to stay put! LOL

Luckily we were able to keep our room at Pop Century for an extra 2 nights but my father had to wait a few hours to get that confirmed. I was on the trip with my DD and parents.

The parks were closing early that day and the resort food courts were closing at around 6:00 pm so they became a madhouse! I never seen people just grabbing anything and everything! The place was cleaned right out.

We were to stay in our rooms until sometime later the next afternoon when we just had to get out for a bit. That evening, they reopened the food court with a limited menu and also had characters visiting in the lobby area.

We were in the 60's building overlooking the main pool and the kiddie pool. There was tree debris everywhere and a small tree had toppled over into the kiddie pool. One of the Year signs (I think it was the 70's one) out front by the bus stop had quite a bit of damage as well.

By Monday morning, things were getting back to normal and now we had to make a mad rush to the airport and try and make the flight home. The airport was a whole other madhouse!! Yikes! LOL

We were each given a 1 Day Adult (including my then 4 yr old in case she didn't come back for 10 years) Ultimate Park Hopper Ticket (good for all 4 parks as well BB, TL, DQ, PI, and WWoS). I still have those sitting in a drawer here. Just never need theme because we always book Free Dining MYW packages instead.
