I am really wanting to go to WDW with my family this year. I was thinking of going in one of the last two weeks of Sept. because it is Value Season so I figure we can cover more with less crowds. I want to make it a 10-day vacation so we aren't rushed at all when there. However apparently hurricane season is mid. Aug.-mid. Oct. Has anybody gone in September and how did you find it? How much risk historically has there been of a hurricane in late Sept?

Hurricane season in Florida runs from early July to late November. Sept is prime season for hurricanes. Now, Florida usually only sees a few large hurricanes each year, and it is rare Orlando sees hurricane force winds.

Late Sept used to be a very slow time for WDW, due to the risk of hurricanes. However, with all if the discounts WDW offers in Sept, it is a popular time to visit.

we went the middle of sep 06 for 10 days and the weather was great . from the posts that i have read in the past the bigest problem with Hurricans at WDW is flights in and out of MCO

ps i would wait a bit to see if disney offers free dining in september they have for the last 3 years

emmsmama, welcome to the boards! Is there any particular reason why you're looking at September? If you're concerned about hurricanes, there are some other value dates (first half of December, January) that may be worth considering. My biggest problem going late September would be the heat, but maybe it's not so bad by then.

We go down the beginning of October every year when it's still hurricane season and we've always had good weather.

I have never been in September but have gone in October a few times. Once there was a hurricane off the coast that caused some issues at Cocoa Beach but Orlando only got rain. Expect rain at that time of year.

May is also good but I like October and you can go to MNSSHP:thumbsup2 . September might be hot.

I was aiming for Sept. because I figured it would still be warm/hot weather, but not overly hot. I was originally thinking of the first couple weeks of Dec. but figured it might be too cold to enjoy the beach or waterparks. If I knew it'd be warm enough for waterparks and the beach at least one or two days in the first week of Dec. then I'd probably go in Dec. instead.

I've been in September. Very hot, very humid. And rainy season, of course. However, I had nothing but sun one year. Lucky of course. So luck of the draw with hurricanes and the rainy season. But as you said if you are intent not to rush around....different feeling with the heat and rain. Also, rain in WDW is so funny. As it can be sunny and then pours and then sunny and over and over again all within a short amount of time. Also, it can be raining in Epcot and with sun in the Magic Kingdom. :lmao:

As for hurricane season. Who knows? None of us. And like others said getting in and out of MCO is the biggest issue there. Also, there have been DIS posters there during the 05'???? hurricanes and relayed that WDW is great with keeping everyone informed and safe as they can. They have moved customers that are not in good areas (ie. FW cabins I believe)

Do look out for "free dining" for that time period as another poster noted.

And an aside...early December is magical. Absolutely magical.

Have fun.

Yeah, now I'm thinking maybe beg. Dec. again to get away from cold Ontario weather, it just might be our only trip to Disney for the next 10 years so I want to try to get to the waterparks and beach if possible. Free dining if they have it in Sept. would also be hard to pass up though. Hmmm, what are temps usually like in Dec? I had read low 70's. Is that accurate? What about crowds? I read that crowds are lower in the first two weeks of Dec.

I've read that the average high/low temps for December are 73/51 (23/11 Celcius). At the beginning of this December, it was quite a bit warmer than that, even as we were having snow dumped on us in southern Ontario.

If you want to watch for "Free Dining" the offer came out to the generally public in April 07' for stays starting August 26, 07'. We managed to get in on it and the weather was really hot and it did rain every afternoon for about 20 minutes or so. The worst was one day for about an hour other than that it was beautiful and sunny all the time.

I really would not worry about what the weather might be like. Just book your holiday for the time you want to be there. In terms of weather it can be really good or really bad at any time. I went once in February and when we arrived the temperature was really nice around 76 degrees and then it turned so cold that people we wearing hats and gloves. It turned out to be the coldest week of the entire winter in FL. Not to say that I expected it to be hot but it went down to 59 degrees(still warmer that Ontario though ;) ).

In 05' we arrived into the end of the first hurricane of the season (July 9th) and all we had in Orlando was rain and it was overcast for a day or two. Orlando is so far inland that the hurricanes don't generally cause much of a problem.

Dec can be hit or miss too. We went Dec 2-9 this year and had perfect weather. Mid 70s-80s everyday and not a drop of rain. Last Dec it was cool and rainy and we never swam.

We went this first week of Sept this year and it was unbelievably hot. Almost unbearable. I would avoid it again. But we also went the first week in Oct and it had cooled off a little and was much more pleasant although still HOT.
