Hi: Looking at going down during hurricane season. Anyone who has stayed at wdw during hurricane season did you lose power in your hotel room? I am worried about not having air conditioning during the hurricane, due to a medical illness.

Deb.

We were at POP Century during Hurricane Frances and never lost power. The resort was excellent in keeping a watch on things and giving updates on the telephone message system. They even prepared food bags to buy that were extremely reasonable.

We went to WDW in Sept. 04 and luckily arrived just after Frances and left the day Ivan hit the panhandle. Needless to say we were very concerned about the weather and I constantly checked www.allearsnet.com to check things out. Everything I read before, and after, that trip assured me that if the worst happened, and a hurricane struck while we were there, Disney would handle it right. From all accounts I've read, they handled it great and no resort lost power. Of course, they did close the parks for safety, but they tried to make things as easy as possible-they even added movies to the in room t.v.

We are going again this Sept. (we also were there Sept. 05) and are not concerned. Go and have fun, enjoy the free dining, and if your concerned-pack a couple flashlights, a battery operated radio, and relax. As far as the air conditioning- that could be a problem, I'm not sure what you could do in that case. But remember, hurricanes rarely hit Orlando/WDW area-right?

We were at Poly during hurricane Jeanne. We did not lose power. They had Disney movies nonstop and left phone messages every few hours. When the hurricane passed, but the parks and DTD were still closed, they opened up the hotel restaurants and shops and had crafts for the kids and live entertainment in the lobby. The limbo guys were great! We just considered it an adventure. We did not feel unsafe at any time.

My DDs were in two of the three hurricanes, due to a cancelled cruise, and said BW was great fun! The hotels have generators, so the power always stayed on. They even sneaked out, and walked over to BC for dinner at Cape May, which was 1/2 price during the hurricanes. We have winters in the midwest that can be quite severe, so they didn't have much trouble with the hurricanes at all.

Very rarely does Disney lose power for long periods of time. But yes they can and have. They have generators but that would be for emergency lighting only.

The main reason for Disney to lose power would be flooding as most if not all their power lines are unground or major damage to a terminal that feeds into the property.

During Charlie it flickered off and on but never completely went out.

I can concur...we spent Hurricane Frances at the WL. There was never a problem with the power at all. Though they did hand out flashlights to everyone prior to it hitting, we didn't need it at all. I don't even think those lights flickered. Also had the cable tv to watch all the updates on the entire time.

We left Louisiana last year the day before Cindy came ashore in La. headed to WDW. After visiting WDW we planned to head to Vera Beach but Dennis changed our minds so we stayed at the BC. Luckily we just received rain & a little wind but we felt very safe there with no loss of power. When DDs & I evacuated for Katrina, the girls kept asking why we didn't wait & go to Disney in August!

Was there for hurricane Jeanne! Even went to walmart and bought flashlights!
Didn't need them! The windows are hurrican proof can withstand forces up to 160 miles per hour winds! (I asked!) The only thing that happened was the rain came in under the door and made the floor wet!

I do believe they lost power for Charley. The hotels have generators but only to run kitches and lighting, not the AC. I would contact the resort directly and inquire if you really want the correct answer.

We stayed in the Contemporart during Charley. It was unnerving but in my opinion Disney took such good care of us, it felt like the safest place to be. We never lost power but when we drove to the grocery store, everywhere there was no power.
