I remember seeing a thread about Disney's hurricane policies, I thought I subscribed to it, but apparently didn't. I don't even remember what forum it was on...does anyone have the link to it or could tell me what their policies are. That evil red spot on the NHC website isn't going away and is giving me heart palpitations everytime I'm on there looking at it :scared1: .

TIA

They won't close down the parks unless a major storm is emminent and hopefully we won't have to deal with one any time soon.

Glad that you posted this as I am watching the hurricanes that are coming after Gustav. I used to live in Jacksonville, FL, so I know that Disney only closes for extreme weather, but I would like to know before I show up there if it's closed. Especially for the MNSSHP.

I don't have the link but this is something that I had saved from WDW website:

Hurricane Policy Statement
From June 1 to November 30, 2008, in the event a hurricane warning is issued by the National Hurricane Center for the Orlando area or for the guest's place of residence within 7 days before the scheduled arrival date, the guest may call in advance to reschedule or cancel their Walt Disney Travel Co. Magic Your Way vacation package without any cancellation or change fees imposed by Disney. This temporary policy also applies to most Walt Disney World® Resort room-only reservations booked directly with Disney, as well as reservations at Disney's Vero Beach Resort or Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort in the event a hurricane warning is issued for those destinations.

Thanks. I knew it wasn't just WDW and the guest's hometown was included as well. Hope all are safe during this nasty storm.

Make shure that you understand the policy. A hurricane warning is not the same as a hurricane watch or a tropical storm warning or watch.

Your vaction must be a Walt Disney Travel Co. Magic Your Way vacation package. The policy also applies to most Walt Disney World Resort room-only reservations booked directly with Disney. Disney tells me that the policy can be changed by the Management and will sometimes change from one storm to the next.

Unless a Cat 4 storm was hitting Orlando (or my home town) directly, I wouldn't cancel my WDW vacation for nothin'! We're leaving in 11 days!! :yay:

If you would be flying in or out when Hurricane is happening at either the departure or arrival area many airlines will allow you to change your tickets without penalty if needed. I am not sure the exact policy, you would have to call the airline.

Thank you...this was exactly what I was looking for! I remembered reading it, but couldn't remember the exact wording (hurricane warning vs watch). I wasn't worried about Disney with regard to money...it's more my airline tickets that worry me. I have to call them and get the info.

thanks again all :)

check your airlines website. I think most of them have information on thier homepage that will explain your options. I was looking for flights earlier for next year and noticed it.

I am not very good about understanding the hurricanes, etc. :confused3 Anyone know the timeframe and likelihood Hanna will hit Orlando?

I don't think it's Hanna that anyone in the Disney area needs to worry about...I think it's her 2 little brothers that we need to be wary of.

TD 9 will most likely be named 'IKE' (who at this point I don't like, LOL) within the next day or so and then little orange spot (OUT DARN SPOT!!) right off the coast of Africa are the ones we will have to keep a "weather" eye on - and yes the pun was intended

:thumbsup2 Agreed!

And that little orange dot should hit about the time I am to make my first trip!!!:scared1:

What is everyones take on the storms?? I am leaving tomorrow morning and returning on the 8th.

I think you should be fine. You might get some affects of Hannah depending on what it decides to do later on the week but that's still some days off.
