Hurricane Matthew Closes WDW - Reopens Saturday, October 8th

For those driving in Orlando and the Disney area: I4 is incredibly slow in the area, running at around 20mph right past SR535

Our Friday night flight was cancelled. I rescheduled to Sunday night arrival. We will lose 2 park days b/c we can't extend our trip longer. We bought our tix through Undercover Tourist and not sure if we can get reimbursed or get those tix replaced.

So quick question

Where is the best place to park the rental car on property

I was thinking by a tree but not the the first spot let someone else get that so most of the tree weight goes on that

That is awful. I hope those CMs end up being considered ride out crews. Like how the heck are you suppose to have a Wedding during a hurricane. SMH.
Because the Atlanta flight was Canceled, CM friend has to cover her original shift: the wedding. She lives in Davenport and all routes to WDW are red.

She can't do Ride Out because all those teams are set to deploy at 6:00p - the wedding begins at about that time.

I just ran into a HUGE snag. I have my Disney resort only stay booked with Undercover Tourist... coming in Friday through Sunday.

Because of the hurricane we aren't making it in for the first night so I have been on hold for about 4 hours this morning with Disney - only to be told that UT bookings need to be changed through Undercover Tourist. But UT just closed their office at noon today through Sunday! How do you change a reservation??

I'm glad there are small business that can function in a larger economy, but to just close up shop like that? Correcting my rant - they are connected and responded within minutes of my voicemail / email and fixed the ressie. But if the lines go down, they are a small business located in the thick of things. If you need them, contact them ASAP don't wait.

Flight for Friday night arrival got cancelled and I can't get through to Disney to make changes - getting an "all circuits busy, please call back later" message. What should I do in this circumstance?

I wonder if you could get Disney to split your ticket and leave you with a 2-day ticket to use at a later date? Undercover Tourist says their tickets aren't refundable (although check if they have a separate hurricane policy) so asking Disney can't hurt right? Maybe not mention where you got the tickets just that you have __ day tickets but had to cut two days because of the hurricane and can they split those 2 days off into new tickets?

I see a whole lot of posts in this thread telling others what "will" happen with this storm. To be totally clear, nobody knows what "will" happen with this storm. Anyone who claims to know what will happen is either misinformed or lying. Even the weather channel is not telling anyone what "will" happen. They are suggesting what may happen and offering probabilities.

About 10 years ago a hurricane as supposed to make landfall south of Cocoa and head directly inland, directly impacting Orlando. We were in WDW for this one, so I remember it vividly. We were staying at ASMo, and were given a time to be in our rooms that evening. Like this hurricane, the storm was supposed to hit the coast in the morning. All parks were closed for the day of the event.

So, we hunkered down and waited it out. When we woke the next morning it was sunny outside. The direct hit still being forecast at 11pm - 8 hours before it was supposed to hit - turned out to be completely wrong. The hurricane stayed off the coast of Florida and moved northward. Since the WDW parks were closed and there were no CMs to open them, we went to SeaWorld and had a great day there.

Be prepared for the worst, but don't worry about or fear something that may never happen.

There was actually an episode where they had a person that works at AK (Holly) talk about this. The buildings for the animals can withstand the hurricanes without a problem. As she put it, "if it can withstand a white rhino, it can take a hurricane."
I took a backstage tour at AK a couple years ago and our guide said "if there's a hurricane we all joke that the first place we would go is in the elephant pens." So I think they will be ok!

Which resort?

What about park it at DS and then bus back to your resort? You won't be driving anywhere tomorrow and can bus over to pick it up on Saturday.

Is Disney Springs closing up earlier, too?

Keep trying, I was trying to call earlier today for other reasons. I just kept redialing and after like 3 or 4 tries, it went through.

Is this today only? Tomorrow I would hope also. Those mini fridges can only hold so much.

Unfortunately, these lunches are for tomorrow - you won't be able to leave your resort rooms at a majority of the on property resorts for the brunt of the storm, hence providing them today.
