UPDATE: Evacuation of Fort Wilderness at Disney World Ordered Ahead of Hurricane

Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground will close at 2:00 pm on Thursday as a precautionary measure ahead of Hurricane Matthew. Guests are now being ordered to leave the resort by then, rather than it being simply suggested.

All RVs are being accommodated in the Cruella Lot of the Magic Kingdom parking area.

Campground guests are being moved to alternate accommodations as previously reported.

Disney is providing transportation for all guests to their alternate accommodations if need be.

what is the outlook now?

If I may allowed to say, in NOAA's 11 AM update, they now project that the storm will be stronger than they previously thought when it reaches the coast nearest Orlando and they think the center will be a lot closer than prior projections... not far off-shore.

We live in Tennessee and plan to leave at 8:00 a.m. on Friday with an arrival at WDW around 6:00 p.m. We will travel I-75 the whole way so we are hoping that it has cleared out some by the time we get to south Georgia. I am nervous but I am still planning to head down as I think it will mostly be gone by Saturday.

We are driving from TN leaving Friday afternoon but have booked a hotel in Tifton, GA for the night. Hoping it has all blown through and will be over so we don't run in to hazardous driving conditions.

When a hurricane is forecast to take a track roughly parallel

to a coastline, as Matthew is forecast to do from Florida through

South Carolina, it becomes very difficult to specify impacts at

any one location. For example, only a small deviation of the track

to the left of the NHC forecast could bring the core of a major

hurricane onshore within the Hurricane Warning area in Florida.

However, a small deviation to the right could keep the hurricane-

force winds offshore.

• Public Schools: Orange County School District has announced via Twitter that classes are closed for Thursday and Friday.
• Sandbags (Public Works will distribute sandbags starting Wednesday at 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Residents are allowed up to 10 sandbags.):
  • 2530 N. Forsyth Road, Goldenrod
  • 18753 Old Cheney Highway, Bithlo
  • 1442 Intermodal Way, Taft
  • 4631 Young Pine Road, Three Points
• The First Academy is closed Thursday and Friday to allow families to prepare for the hurricane.
• St. Charles Borromeo School canceled classes for Thursday & Friday.
• UCF: Campus closing Wednesday @ 3pm. Classes canceled through Friday.
• Diocese of Orlando: All elementary & high schools are closed Thursday & Friday.
• FAMU College of Law: Closed for remainder of the week, re-opening on Monday.

Orange county is the county Walt Disney world is in!

Yep, we are on our way back to FW from MK. We have to abandon our FPs and maybe even dinner

So you have to close camp and move rig to MK parking lot?

Since the question of supplies has come up, on pages back, as well as the mention of packing a flashlight I just wanted to share how helpful glowsticks/necklaces/bracelets can be in the event of a power outage. No, I am not saying it will happen but if it does it can sometimes be unsettling just how dark it really is inside. We know we won't be able to turn on any lights inside but we forget the impact of street lights/exterior lights/appliance lights until they are no longer there. Hanging a glowstick from door handles can help with locating doorways, hanging a glow necklace from the lamp can really help take away that pitch black feeling that, for me at least, I wasn't quite expecting even though I was fully prepared for a power outage. Glow items are now a staple in our emergency preparedness kit. They are an inexpensive and portable option that some may not think of (definitely still pack the flashlight of course but having these items on all of the time can take the edge off the darkness).

Wishing everyone safety whether you live in the area or are traveling to/from.

Good Idea on Glow Sticks.. With many people having young children safe lighting is important. Another option which is solar powered landscape lights often used in gardening. They can be charged during the day even in cloudy conditions and will easily light up a room.

I made a reservation near Disney Springs in case I feel the need to flee. I only live 5 miles from the beach and the center is supposed to be right off it Friday morning, so I'd rather be (and feel) safe than sorry.

If they're evacuating it's voluntary and not on anyone's suggestion. No suggestion has come from the county emergency boards- I've had the news on all day while running laundry and tracking down stuff in the new house and boxes. As of 1 pm:
- Brevard County: Mandatory evacuations for barrier islands is at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
- St. Lucie County: Voluntary evacuations have begun.
- Flagler County: Voluntary evacuations have begun.
- Duval County: Voluntary evacuations have begun.

I've been watching this thread and thought I'd create an account and chime in case it helps anyone - we had reservations at Ft Wilderness (tents) for Friday-Tues and MNSSHP tickets for Friday night. We had no issues getting refunds for the MNSSHP tickets (we purchased tickets for the party on Monday), as well as getting our reservation changed/refunded. Good luck and stay safe.

No rig, cabin. GS said we needed to see the front desk, but then put me on hold to see if they could go ahead and modify. I was left on hold for too long so we are leaving MK. I can't enjoy the rest of my park time knowing we may be rushed later.

Campground has to be completely evacuated by 2 pm tomorrow.

Boat to FW from MK right now is packed.
