Hurricane Maria

Does anyone know whether Hurricane Maria, which is not thought to make landfall, is an issue for people flying from the UK to FL?

I don't really know the answer, but I think that it's a similar situation to thunderstorms - wherever possible, the plane will simply change course.

It's bound to be a lot easier to avoid a hurricane by plane - the problems arise when the hurricane is due near to the landing airport and could not be avoided. I should imagine the only delays that would arise would be caused by too many planes having to share a smaller airspace.

Bet Obi Wan Kenobi knows the real answer though.

As Kristie says the problem only arises if the hurricane is actually in the area on the day of your flight,I know last year that they closed MCO at 18.00 on the night that Hurricane Jeanne was due in.Any flights that weren't going to land before this time were cancelled at origin.Florida's hurricanes tend to come in from out at sea & depending on where they hit the "pan handle" & direction depends on what happens.Florida flights don't come in from the sea but come in around Nova Scotia & fly down the continent.
