Hurricane Katia -- Sat 2 PM update, pg 2, post 16

Jim I am soooo stalking this post.

I leave 9/10/11 from PHILLY. I don't care if we have a hurricane while there, I just wanna GET THERE! I am kind of worried but your posts have put me a little more at ease I hope it stays that way!

Any thoughts of the two systems (katia and lee) merging? Has that happened before?

Also if you weren't to forecast for dvc properties....what would your forecast be for pa nj and ny?

Well, we are finally getting a little rain. Not much, no wind, but a nice little drippy rain shower. I can just hear the ground, trees, bushes, etc going "Ahhhh." It's just about our first rain since I can't even remember, maybe May? Everything is so brown here and my water bill doubled this month when we decided to run our sprinklers for a few minute at each location once a week. Now south LA is getting lots of rain. NW LA is getting a nice little sprinkle.

Briefly, the Sunday 5 PM forecast data continues to look better and better. Virtually all of the computer model guidance has converged and projects Katia moving toward the US East Coast and then taking a hard right turn and heading AWAY from the US to the NE. Right now, it looks like that turn will occur on Friday.

I would not be surprised if Katia affected the weather in coastal areas on Friday 9/9, expecially NC, but I don't think it's really going to bring any serious difficulties to anywhere in North America.

Not gonna happen with these two systems, but it does happen occasionally. Last year or the year before we had one system which overtook and swallowed another system.

Whatever the local forecast is...with probably a little greater likelihood of rain next Friday.

But maybe not. Often these large storm systems sort of draw the moisture to themselves and the weather away from the system is BETTER than it would have been otherwise.
