OK Gang-I'm officially started to get nervous about this storm!
I worried when it first picked up that it would slam the poor Orlando area. I prayed that those poor folks wouldn't have to go through that again...

Well nobody dare say prayer doesn't work because it's moving slowly west/northwwest, and UNFORTUNATELY now it looks like it's going to slam the Florida panhandle as a Catagory 5! Well, (sheepishly) we happily reside in Pensacola and, gee, um, could you guys maybe say a couple of prayers for us too?

I don't think this got "real" for me until today. We are a PROUD Navy family and live on board a Naval base here in Pcola, and actually had uniformed Marines drag sand bags up to our front door to help us prepare for the storm...very eye opening having to explain to your three year old that we might have some "heavier rain than usual" as you mentally prepare to pack up everything that is REALLY important to you.

Keep us in your thoughts and pray that Ivan the Terrible at least looses some strength!

THANKS GUYS!!!
Mel and family

Prayers on the way. Just stay safe and if they tell you to evacuate just do it!!!

As long as you and family are OK the rest is just stuff.

Oh no - I have to confess to breating a sigh of relief for Orlando and not really thinking about the poor people who were going to have to deal with it - Your post has just made me realise how foolish that was.

I would hope the Navy now how to prepare for these things,

keep safe

I'm here in Alabama and I always say special prayers for you guys down on the gulf coast during hurricane season. ( The gulf coast is my second fav place in the world next to WDW ::yes:: ) My famlies thoughts and prayers are with you guys. God bless you and your family and thank you for serving our country!!!!!

Good luck and God bless!!

Hi Melody Mack, I am in Pensacola too, about 5 miles or so from the Navy Base. I too am beginning to get really worried, although when I watched the weather earlier they said they expect it to be a category 1 or 2 hurricane by the time it reaches us... living here all my life the one thing I have learned about hurricanes, is that they are very unpredictable and you just always have to be prepared. I am very worried about what is going to happen, I don't want to wish the storm on someone else, but I do wish it would go somewhere else. Keep your eyes and ears open and watch the weather channel or WEAR3 they will keep us posted, until then, get some batteries, water and non-perishable food items remove any items that are not secure in your yard and stay put and wait.

THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT EVERYBODY!

Minnie - I heard that with the warm Gulf waters there predicting a Cat 3. I hope you're right about the 1 or 2.....that would be great news at this point.

I'm from here myself and am used to all the drama this time of year. My parents/siblings still live here too and they don't want to hang out for the storm, so I think we'll be forming a "Mack Family Caravan" out of here tomorrow afternoon sometime. We don't want to get stuck here with no electric (best case scenario), or worse.

My daughters preschool is closed this week as well as the University I attend, so worst case scenario is we sit by a nice pool in a hotel waayyyyy away from here!

Keep all of us in your prayers DIS!

THANKS!
Mel and Family

Melody Mack, my previous post was before I read todays paper and also before I picked up my kids from school and recieved the note that schools were closed from today until further notice. I am still worried but I am not leaving my house, the last time we left, we were so stuck in traffic that we never actually got anywhere and when we arrived back home, we had never even lost power. Good luck to you and your family I hope that we don't recieve much damage, although I don't really believe that it is avoidable, the front page of the PNJ said that the power company is saying that power outages could be as long as three weeks or greater....I don't know what else to do but pray. Everyone else out there please pray.
Kim
