Schools here are closed Friday and Monday definitely. They have cancelled all football games this weekend, as well as all open houses.
Jax is recommemdimg evacuating zones A & B.

While the realists are preparing for whatever happens, the "Irma is nothing to worry about" crowd is again falling into complacency.

We are officially canceled
I'm currently on hold to get a refund for our MNSSHP tickets and then I need to cancel my daughter's BBB appointment. I cried as I canceled our trip I still am. But no trip is worth my family being hurt or being stranded. I wish everyone the best when making their decision. This wasn't an easy decision and we are all sad. We were supposed to leave Friday and fly back next Friday but mother nature just wasn't allowing us to go this time. My kids cried when unpacking their suitcases. We will get there again just not this year. And a plus south west fully refunded our flights. So we are whole again money wise. Stay safe every one in Florida

Such a hard decision to make. I shed some tears cancelling my family's trip, and I'm not even going. Just so you know I was on hold for 2 hours to cancel my Night of Joy tickets, and just got off. Patience is key, and the cast members are working so hard to accommodate everyone! So sorry you have to have your kiddos experience this, but the power of a hurricane is no joke!

Thanks for the update. We hope to see on the DIS Board when your ready to travel!

Just found out my girlfriend is in Antigua. She said it blew threw in 24 hours. Crazy! They are back to vacation as normal.
Really???.... Because I have family in sint martin with no more house or even grass in the yard and a car full of water. I have an extremely hard time believing things are back to normal for anyone.... also the airport is destroyed so no one can get out and Jose is on the way.

I've rescheduled our 9/8-9/11....unfortunately this is one tourist that will just have to wait and pray that we can make the revised dates.

The best advice I can give you travelers is to listen to people who have been through one of these.
Keep in mind the potential risk if you are inside the cone.
Keep in mind Florida is in a state of emergency.
Keep in mind as many as 5-8 million people could be fleeing north from South florida if the current forcast track holds.

the only difference between the models is the degree of devastation your part of Florida is going to get. I wouldn't put any faith in your vacation being any better from one model to another.

Agree with this. We were there for Matthew which only skirted the coast. Disney closed the parks for that for a full day plus. Guests were stuck in rooms with only the option to pay for cold boxed lunches. Yes everyone was safe but not an ideal vacation to say the least. When we left for WDW last fall Matthew was a Cat 5 with sights on FL. In retrospect I wish we had rescheduled because we ended up losing days of our trip (we ended up leaving 2 days early) but frankly I spent the day leading up to it worried and glued to the weather channel. Just my opinion.

Decided to move our trip a week

southwest was a pleasure to move our flights

Disney was awful waiting on hold forever to get disconnected once we actually started getting somewhere with the rep, second call the rep refused to honor our package discount and ended but costing more for the exact same stay one week latter. Disney definitely didn't do the right thing by me but I have to many changes to make to lose more of the night arguing with them.

I haven't seen anyone post this yet but Orange county mayor said residents need not evacuate at the current standing of 4pm est. It has been five hours since and things can still change in the coming days, but its something to go off of.

Since I apparently need to clarify Everytime I post something. This is as of 4pm est. The weather is still erratic and can still change. I'm simply posting the latest update from Orlando government officials.

And here is where you can take some comparison to FL. The island is 108 miles. FL is how wide? There are some folks are saying that Irma is so large that even moving even near FL will cause massive damage and it will lasts for days yet it managed to move near Antigua and it's back to normal in 24 hours. Wonder how that is?

Because the information you were given is wrong. It was Barbuda, not Antigua that got pounded by Irma. Residents of Antigua said the storm was milder than expected, but have deep concerns for sister island of Barbuda, which remained incommunicado for hours before reporting that Hurricane Irma killed at least one person and destroyed 90 percent of its structures and vehicles on the island, according to Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Gaston Browne.

So your "everything was fine after Irma passed by" analogy is wrong.

Well, canceled the Universal part of trip that was supposed to be 9/9-9/14. Had a $200 cancel fee, but it's just ok. Now checking into the Dolphin for two night starting on the 12th, and switching to the Swan on the 14th.

So your comparison doesn't work.

The eye of Irma was 40 miles north of Antigua. Haven't you said on more than one occasion that there could be catastrophic damage being that close to the eye? Yet now you claim that Antigua had it mild....

Was this regarding free dining or a different package discount?

Eye of the storm is a lot calmer, actually.

My comparison works fine and my information was not wrong. Do you even read? This post

said Antigua was back to normal in 24 hours. They didn't say anything about Barbuda, no one mentioned it in the conversation I was siting. Antigua is about 100 miles in size. Similar in size to FL. I haven't a clue what size Barbuda is. I didn't look it up, I wasn't discussing it, as it wasn't mentioned, Antigua was. So maybe get a clue what you are talking about before you tell someone that their comparison doesn't work. I was comparing Antigua to FL because their size (width) is similar.

DS24 and his GF just canceled this evening. They still need to call ticketing to see about their La Nouba tickets & tour tickets. They booked a full package with air, American Airlines, if a warning is issued for MCO, they will get that back. They decided to head to Niagara Falls & Toronto for the week. They want to get away and due to jobs, hard to reschedule. They are heartbroken as they had this planned for so long, but the stress of all of this just got to them.
