Hurricane Irma?

This (potential) shift east shown on many updated models gives me a glimmer of hope. Unfortunately, we are supposed to fly out tonight. I have no idea what to do. I keep going back and forth with it. If you are there but confined to your room, does Disney offer any sort of refund for that scenario?

We are suppose to flight out tomorrow and we keep going back and forth as well. We are waiting to see what the models do throughout today and into tomorrow before deciding. I did order water to our resort through Amazon prime. Our choice is go, with the knowledge that we will be in our room for a day or two, or cancel and loose our flights for six people $$. You might get a refund for the tickets not used. But nothing else.

I couldn't get anyone to honor the free dining and had to downgrade to a mod resort to cover cost difference!
Such a bummer, but I've come to terms with it. We will likely drop the dining plan when we re-book and just pay out of pocket for meals, as I think we can eat much cheaper just by cutting back on some table service meals we had picked.

Enjoy your trip when you do get to go!

I love Key Largo (the movie). It's what used to happen before weather people could forecast a hurricane. Plus, Bogart is amazing. OK. Back to the Irma discussion.

It's not clear how it started, but yesterday in this forum a notion started up that today there would "clarification" of Irma's track and Disney activating their hurricane policy.

Well, it's tomorrow and neither of those things has happened.

All the supposed hurricane experts are saying the same thing now they've been saying for days: "Irma will turn more northerly at some point, but we don't know when or where."

And since Orlando is not yet under a Hurricane warning, Disney has not activated their hurricane policy (which they only do once a warning for Orlando is issued).

Bottom line: understandably, people want certainty now. But they're not going to get it until Friday at the earliest, more likely on Saturday or Sunday.

Wow can you read? In the quote you've pulled I very clearly ask "Can you wait and see IF Disney activates their hurricane policy tomorrow?" Again, no one here is trying to say anything is set in stone.

The person you quoted CLEARLY states to wait and see IF Disney activates their policy...not that it WILL be activated at any specific point. And even follows it up with "no assurances".

Everyone knows it's a wait and see situation. And everyone has a different threshold for how long theyre willing to "wait" to make whatever call is best for them.

As for Disney only activating their policy when a warning is issued, I've already been on the phone with DVC member services and have been told that Disney has waived their cancellation policies due to the storm. Maybe it's different for non-DVC reservations, but so far I have only read tales of Disney working to get people rescheduled and refunded without penalties.

Here are the latest global + ensemble or consensus spaghetti models. All of these models are used in NHC forecasts and they have cited several of these specific models as informing their forecasting in multiple updates on Irma in the past few days.

This is getting scary for us in SC :scared: A majority of these models go straight through my town

THANK YOU! Good lord the tension on here.

on the plus side, last night I was able to get a Beaches and Cream reservation for Thursday night and a BOG lunch on Saturday. There was no availability for either last week. I have a feeling we will be in almost empty parks the next few days.

On the other hand, we are still undecided about our trip home. We are scheduled to fly out on Tuesday, but Southwest has notified me of possible disruptions until Wednesday, so I'm debating changing the flight till Thursday, but then again of the storm goes up the East Coast, getting into Hartford might be even more messed up by then. So I'm still just waiting...

We have been at Beach Club since 8/30. I was due to fly out Sunday at 7:30 and reserved my current room for three more nights just in case so when SWA started no change fees I immediately switched to a Wednesday flight. My daughter is starting the Disney college program this week (the reason we are here) and aside from worrying about my flight being cancelled I had to worry about leaving her here alone to deal with the storm. We had her car shipped down so she is also concerned about leaving it parked at the college apartments. Now at least she can stay here with me during the storm and park here also.

Did anyone stay Club Level during Matthew? I'm wondering how they handle a hurricane and whether or not they will provide any food and water, etc.

We ventured out last night to CVS, Wal-Mart and Publix, none had any water left. Getting gas was an adventure as well- we had to try three stations and the lines were crazy. We were hit very hard in CT by both Irene and Sandy- no power for almost 2 weeks, cell towers knocked out, no water at all (since we all have wells) so we have plenty of experience dealing with hurricanes and know how bad it can get. My husband had cut 4 trees apart just so we could get out of our driveway! It is not just a matter of riding out the storm, the aftermath is the worst part. If we were not already stuck here there is no way I would have come down to vacation now or in the next week.

Governor speaking now. Taking action to get more gas in the state as quickly as possible to assist with any evacuations. All systems in place, but still unsure of storm path.

Just back from Publix (Landstar Blvd with Town Center Blvd in Orlando for those wondering, 20 min from WDW) No water, there is still packaged bread and also fresh baked bread from Publix bakery but that is low. The canned food aisle was being restocked so plenty of tuna and soup...Gas station was fine, filled the car up without a wait at all. The important thing is not to panic. There was a couple at Publix and the lady was close to tears because there was no water and the husband had 2 empty huge bottles, the ones you use at office coolers, and kept telling her that they can fill those up when they got home.

This is a screen shot from a letter issued by our school system... in Tampa. Father from the storm than Orlando...

"All of Florida is facing a threat more serious than at any time in recent memory."

Please, please, please reschedule your trip if you can.

There will be a backlog at the airport because of all the cancelled flights and the fact that the airlines won't park their planes in a hurricane so they will need to be flown in before flights can resume. It will take a few days after the airport reopens for things to return to normal.

I don't think* that this represents size but error of path. Someone will soon correct me if I am wrong!

It represent a projected range of the path. And yes, the wider it is, the more potential error in the prediction.

Bottom line: no one can tell anyone right now with any certainty where Irma is or isn't going to go. Which is why those cherry picking certain models off spaghetti maps are engaging in a morale building exercise. The only meaningful data is the real time tracking, which won't show us what is happening in terms of the predicted northerly turn until it actually happens, which will be late this week.

The news from Brevard County schools. Closed Thus. and Fri. DD is a teacher and that is good news! Can finish up hurricane plans.. Can't go anywhere without my kiddo. We have shutters up and watching the models closely.

Don't sweat getting water from the stores. If you have containers tap water works!

That pink one takes it right through me. Hopefully if it does, it will have degraded quite a bit by then.

We are in Upstate SC about 30 mins from the Georgia border and 30 minutes from Greenville. Hopefully it weakens before it heads our way, but it makes me nervous with this being one of the strongest hurricanes in the Atlantic.

We were scheduled to fly from SC to MCO Sunday evening (SW). We have moved our flights up to Saturday morning and added a day. We can always cancel before Saturday if projections change and have a direct impact on Orlando. DVC members, so added on an extra day through that. Availability was limited to Boardwalk, Poly, Old Key West or Bay Lake Tower. We were looking at studios, so can't comment on other layouts.
