I was in St pete and was evacuated out of my condo on the beach - I first tried tampa hotels - all booked - then I started call ing the 800 number chains... marriot found me a room at an orlando residence inn for a whooping 209$ a night - the hurricane was only suppose to brush orlando and sink st. pete at that point. I was assured that the hotel had generators in case of loss of power. As you all know, charly sweeped right over seaworld and hit the hotel I was staying in - They loss everything and the emergency lights were only on for a few hours - when they went out, the staff said the batteries ran out.. no generators....

My question is, do I take this up with Marriot? That is a lot of money for a hotel that 'said' they had generators and didnt...

Anyone else wondering or was compensated?

Some things is out the hotel control and the hotel probably did have generators but they got destoryed.

I have a story tell that is unrelate to hurricane. I work at a baseball stadium and all power out in the whole staduim and there was not a thing we could do about. We called EPB found we was not only ones without power the whole downtown area was with power because the because a line broke. Our downtown is for the tourist we was turn people away from the concession stands because we could not serve them any food. Why because the back-up genators got destoryed.

People was having a fit because could serve them and thought should be able to count money the old fashion way without computers.

There was one problem with that we put all our money in the registers and could not get out because our registers run on computers.

The point being don't blame the hotel for this one. This was a unique problem with the hurricane.

I see your point of view - and I understand - but I was charged the premium price - I had a hard time getting a room - who knew that the 4 star hotel down the street actually cut prices to accomadate people? This marriot was not all that impressive and in the hieght of the hurricane they were trying to get me to tour their vacation club to get a discount :)

You can always call and ask. Marriott seems to have good customer service. They may not refund your money but may offers discounts of some type. Start with the hotel itself and escalate it as necessary.
