Hello fellow DIS members from a newbie,

I have a long scheduled and eagerly awaited week-long trip to WDW coming up, and am scheduled to arrive on Sunday, September 5th. I will be staying on property at Port Orleans Riverside.

Unfortunately, the last computer model that I looked at on the NOAA site (National Hurricane Center) shows a storm track for Hurricane Frances that would be a direct hit on Orlando sometime on Sunday Sept 5th. Six days out is an eternity in weather prediction, so hopefully Frances will visit elsewhere. I distinctly remember I did not book Frances to room with me! :-)

I would be grateful for any updates that anyone could provide who might hear about closures/etc regarding WDW and Frances. Also, if anyone has any info about what would happen if WDW had a direct hit and I wouldn't be able to check into PO for a few days (i.e., would I get a refund for my room/Park Hopper tickets), I'd be very interested in hearing your thoughts.

Thank you for any help/info that you may be able to provide.

Bob

It won't be a direct hit, since WDW is inland but it could see some hurricane winds and rain. It all depends where it makes landfall. Which right now it is still a little to far away to tell
Good Luck

Still to early to tell. The only cities that the National Hurricane Center has listed on their probabilities list are in South Florida. Just keep checking the National Hurricane Center for watches and warnings.

I would say your vacation is safe. During Charley Disney only closed early the day of the hit and they were open and running again normal hours the next morning. However we over in Brevard do have stuff to worry about... I'm thinking like you hopefully Frances will hit somewhere else or better yet no where at all.

Just wanted to say welcome to the DIS, Bob!

:jumping1: Welcome to the DIS!!! :jumping1:

Good luck with Frances! I'm sure over the next week, there will be lots of info here on these boards that you'll find useful.

We are scheduled to fly into TPA on Saturday afternoon!
Not able to go to WDW this trip, but we are staying at St. Pete Beach for our anniversary!!

I will be watching this one closely too!:earseek:

What happens if they cancel flights? Can you reschedule for another time? We won't have any available days for quite some time!

They really don't know yet where Frances will go, but it isn't looking good for central Florida. The main computer model puts Frances coming ashore around Melbourne and tracking across Orlando. That being said, there is a 350 mile variance possible. I'm still praying that it will turn to the NE and head out to sea. Not likely, but we can hope. I will be watching the news carefully. Please feel free to PM me for updates.

I think you are safe in St. Pete. I think they predict it coming into Vero Beach area or south and heading NW, if memory serves me right St. Pete is south of this area.
They did CX flights in and out of Orlando early in the day on Friday though when Charley came.

Thanks! I hope you are right and it misses ALL of Florida! Just don't know if the flight pattern will have us in harms way. Anyone know if planes will fly *around* weather patterns, or just cancel? I know it seems silly with all the potential damage, but seems that when we plan a trip for just the two of us, something always happens!:(

Welcome!

Been there (WDW), done that (hurricanes)

We've been to WDW 3 times, during hurricanes (no direct hit) and the parks were empty. Just remember to pack your poncho!

NO!!!!!!!!!!

I'll be watching along with you all. We are moving to Vero Beach this weekend.

:( I hope it turns North.

Frances, GO AWAY!

ACK!! My mom lives beachside in Melbourne. My sister and family also live in the Melbourne area.:(

Welcome to the DIS! I'm so glad that you decided to join us and I hope you can visit often!

anything for Panama City? My mom's best friend lives in the area

I can't stand this waiting game! Supposed to go on the Wonder Sunday!
I think these hurricanes are following me.
There is plenty of info over on the DCL forums if anyone wants to read more. It may affect the Sept. 4th and 5th cruises not to mention the ones out there now.

They will definately have to evacuate the Vero Beach location. But where do they move the people to if the path is towards WDW as well? That is a huge problem. People are already stressed from Charley and this just adds to it.

You know, I ended up buying trip insurance today because of all the bad weather Florida and the Bahamas are getting.

I hope I don't have to use it, but I am glad I have it...
