We are scheduled to fly on Saturday, the 4th, from Pittsburgh. I am worried about Frances and how this will affect our travel plans. It is predicted the hurricane will hit either Saturday evening or Sunday morning. We are flying US Air. Would it be better to fly on Friday night? Can we fly standby? Will we be charged? Any suggestions. Also we are staying at Cypress Pointe. Any worries there? Thanks.

I live in N/E Pa. and from what I've been seeing on the future dopplers, IMHO.....I wud leave on Friday.

I would leave on Friday. As to if this is possible, you will need to call the airline for those details. :)
This has not been a good year for the people in FL, let's hope it veers out to sea.

In cases like this if there is room on the plane, they will almost always switch you to an earlier flight without penalty. We've done it several times to get out before a Nor'Easter hit.

We were in Florida during Charley. Personally if any of your plans can be changed I would not go. We arrived on the 9th and really had not looked at any forcasts during the weekend. It was truly not the vacation I had planned. We went to Captiva Island, exactly where Charley came ashore, and were made to leave on Thursday morning so we lost 2 days of beach vacation. We fled to Disney because the hurricane was to hit Tampa missing Orlando. Got into CSR and spent the day swimming and DTD. Bought tickets for Epcot the next day. The hurricane changed its path, the parks closed at 1, nothing was open out on town. The only place to get food was at the resort, 3 other Disney resorts were evacuated, people from Tampa fled to Disney, it was wall to wall people. Waited in line for over an hour for ham and cheese on hamburger buns for $6.50, could not get into restaurant. Were told to not leave our rooms after 7 pm. So another day of our vacation gone. Left for the Magic Sat. am, normal 45 minute drive took 3 hours no one in Orlando had electricity. 1 port was missed while cruising and that mess up 2 excursions I had planned but at least we had sun. It was not the vacation I took a year in planning. I know it is had to reschedule but I sit here still thinking of the vacation I planned and the vacation I got.

If you are trying to get to Disney early for fear your scheduled flight might be cancelled, also show up at the airport early anyway even if the person on the phone says your chances are not good.

(Normally I don't make an effort to return home early to beat a storm)
