Hello fellow cruisers! We are leaving on the 4 day 8/12 cruise (sulking bcs its not 7 day!) and I was wondering how far ahead people start looking at possible hurricane weather. I hate bringing this up of course.

But, we are from MN and not too hurricane savvy to say the least. I did read Isaac's storm and am reading After the Great Deluge tho...But, I don't feel as knowledgable as all of you Floridians and other south east people.

Is there a good web site besides Weather Channel?

And no - we are not too worried. If its looking scary, we just won't get on the boat...which I would imagine won't sail if its really bad, or will sail around stuff if it has too...

We're sailing on the Wonder on 8/12 also....I've been watching the Weather Channel whenever they start talking about the tropics. Everything looks pretty good at this point. As long as that ship can leave port, I'm happy. I figure if something happens while we're at sea, they can avoid the weather.
See ya then!!

Hi,

Check out www.NOAA.gov

It has all the official radar info on hurricanes and other storms.

By the way, I see you're from Bloomington. I'm originally from White Bear Lake and my sister is near you in Chanhassen.
I can't believe you're having hotter weather than we are!!!

We always fly in the day before during hurricane season. You just never know.

MissEulalie,
I'm from White Bear, but I live in Woodbury now. I'm Carol Deranek. Do I know you?

You can start looking now just to see if anything is brewing.

But as far as whether it could impact your cruise plans--depends on what is brewing and where...but typically forecasts get more accurate at the 72 hour mark with the infamous "cone".

I am sailing a little later (9/29/07). I hope the season stay quiet and doesn't ruin anyone's vacation!

Well, I would have been the class of 1993. But I moved in 9th grade. We used to live off Centerville Rd. in North Oaks. My parents used to have a store In Maplewood Mall for years.

Ziton is my maiden name.

It has always been my understanding that you are mcuh safer ON the boat (which can sail around a storm) than on land (where you are a sitting duck). Once in a great while you may have to leave/return to a different port if there is a storm right at canaveral (it's rare--and they would bus you there), more commonly (though still fairly unusual) your ports during the crusie could be altered as you sail around a storm (on our first 4 night in October of '99 we skipped both Nassua and Castaway and went to Cozumel to avoid a storm).
