Hurricane Dorian / WDW Theme Parks Discussion

I honestly think you have time. Why don't you give yourself until tonight to watch the models and decide?
Evacuation plans are rarely perfect. Leaving later can mean much longer on the road. That's an important thing to consider. Maybe decide together when to make a go or no go decision?
Sending some good thoughts your way, these things are stressful.
Thank you both for your input. Dh was thinking we should decide by today. I’m more thinking maybe we could go like super early tomorrow morning. I’m not positive they would have a room ready but I really think they would since people have cancelled. I’m mostly worried about paying $1000 for AKL and then seeing we didn’t even need it. I know it’s a risk we might just have to take though

Don't know if seen the track for this morning but the storm is now heading towards Georgia/South Carolina. Thursday is the day it's scheduled to arrive. The track can still change but if it holds, driving through Georgia may not be possible.
We're watching-the only time I can remember they used I-75 as an evacuation route was during Irma, and it was just the northbound express lane.

So given the new info available is it realistic to plan or flying out of MCO on Wed? Is anyone currently here and planning to leave tomorrow ahead of the hurricane re-thinking their decision???

FWIW I’ve been traveling the Caribbean and WDW in September for 20+ years. Experienced quite a few strong storms/winds, just missed Luis and one other (Tomas?).

Some models have Dorian a good bit of the coast so the effect from the storm would be minimal at best. some however have it landfalling too.

Doesn’t look like it’s going to really hit landfall in FL at all and the best news, all the weather Disney will get will be from the left side of the storm, which is the weak side. So, for all of y’all debating whether to go or cancel, I’d go.
We were there for Irma & it wasn’t a big deal. The parks were closed for a couple of days, but the resorts provided entertainment & food options, Disney movies all day played on the TV. It was kind of fun.

As massive as she is, even if she skirts just off the coast, there won't be sunny skies
Currently Dorian is not a massive hurricane actually on the smaller size relative to hurricanes, the storm will get a little larger today as it strengthens, it will be a category 5 probably by this afternoon, so it is very powerful.

Assuming Dorian misses a direct hit, the parks stay open, but we get more rain -

Any suggestions on fine tuning fastpass selections? I just traded SPLM for PPF with the idea that there is a high likelihood SPLM could be closed.

Is that the right strategy? Or do you want a FP for something that end up being closed?

If the ride closes you get anytime FP for it. I would leave it alone.

I’m not a CM, but please give them your thoughts (and prayers if you are so inclined). Orlando is still squarely in the cone. Like others, CMs are running around to prepare themselves, their families, homes, pets, etc. It’s stressful and daunting. Will I need to evacuate? Where will I go? Will there be hotel rooms or even gas? Will the hotel take my two dogs? Will my kids’ schools get cancelled and who will watch them if I still have to work? What will happen with my job if I feel my best decision is to leave? Do I have water, food, medicine, fuel, etc.? They are predominately professionals and if required will likely be at work, smiling, and providing service as expected. But they still may have all that stress going on in their brains.

Do you get an anytime FP for that particular attraction? Or an anytime FP for any attraction?

Thinking that if it constantly raining, some of the weather subject attractions could be closed potentially all day.

In the event I have an anytime FP, how does that affect ability to pick up 4th+ FP?

It won’t be good for Mine Train if it wasn’t a Mine Train FP. Pretty sure everything else is a go.

We used ours before trying for a 4th, so I am not 100% sure on that. It’s lightning that’s a problem. Not rain.

Track this morning is it turning north and heading up the coast. However, that doesn't rule out it going inland.

Everyone needs to keep their guards up. So much has happened track wise in the last 24 hours but so much can happen again in the next 24! it wasn’t supposed to turn due west until later today and it did this morning. It also sped up a bit so if we don’t see the slow down they are expecting until later Florida can still be in trouble. Just keep praying it continues to trend east and everyone is safe from the storm

I am currently on the phone with member services. I think I'll cancel Sept 4 & 5 and change arrive to Sept 6. We'll still have 8 days to play, but damn if I'm going to lose some prime fast pass reservations!! First world problems. Also still concerned about the availability of power, gas, etc in the aftermath.
We finally made the decision to cancel the entire trip. Storm might possible impact the Carolina's where we live. Sigh. Hoping there is availability to book 2020 before my annual pass expires.
