Hurricane Dorian Forces Disney Dream to Alter Sailings

We are scheduled for the 9/6 3-day and waiting to see how all of this will play out. I don’t think it will be cancelled like the cruise before ours, but I don’t think I would mind rescheduling at this point.
You will get an extra day a sea instead of Castaway, that is the only difference

So it looks like MCO is closing Tuesday morning. I wonder if the storm slows down, the 3-night cruise could get switch to 7-nights or involve a change of disembarkation/embarkation port?

We are on the cruise now and while it’s definitely nice getting the extra days we are very aware of not only the disappointment others are feeling with cancelled vacations, the absolute devastation that people are experiencing with the hurricane. We were able to switch our flights for the third time and are trying to reach our employers and school.

I wondered about that. Did DCL allow you to use resources to call/contact airlines, employers, and school? Or did you just have to bite the international charge bullet and deal with it while in port?

We were some of those that lost days on seven day cruise in '04 to Frances. It was downgraded to a four day cruise. DVC refunded half of our points for the cruise and gave us a voucher for a cruise within the next year at 25% discount cash or points. So in that case using points was a good deal. But I do feel differently about using points now to cruise. Now we are going to book cash and rent the points.

We were able to use the phone in concierge. I saw others using the phones at guest services. As soon as we heard about the change we literally ran to use a phone before it got too crazy and crowded.

Was Castaway Cay able to open by 9/3? It seems too soon after the hurricane stalled over that area.

I believe they are still getting at least tropical storm force winds, if not stronger. The storm essentially sat on Grand Bahama and Great Abaco for the past 2 days. It is only now starting to move northward away from The Bahamas. I don't think anyone was scheduled to dock today, the Dream is due there tomorrow on their revised extended itinerary. I would be surprised if a ship docks at CC at all this week, but it depends on how much actual damage was sustained to structures. Maybe by Friday, which I think is when the Fantasy is due next.

I think we are all waiting with bated breath to see just what the extent of the damage is. The whole thing is so incredibly sad for the Bahamas. Tropical Storm force winds are not too bad though, especially for a place that is built to withstand them. I live on martha's vineyard and we get up into tropical storm force winds during the winter and there is not a whole lot of damage to structures from the wind itself except if trees/limbs fall into them and we have a lot of old, craggly trees. We get minor power outages due to downed tree limbs but you don't see things like roofs blowing off at that speed.

It's probably not a whole lot of fun to be out and about in and they are not setting up chairs and hammocks and such until it quiets down either though and there is no sense doing cleanup while stuff (debris) is still blowing around for sure. I would be shocked if they are ready to receive visitors tomorrow as well but am super curious about when they will be.

I would be shocked as well, but they must be holding out a small sliver of hope or they would have told the current Dream passengers already, right? As well as the Fantasy is probably headed there on Friday.

Good that you were treated in a fair way when you used points. It seems some did not get a fair treatment.

Before getting a lawyer involved, read the cruise contract. The cruise line has significant leeway to do whatever they want in a weather related situation and is not liable for acts of god and the needed re-routing of ships due to those acts.

Disney has their butt covered. READ THE SMALL PRINT

Will Disney still go to the behamas over the next month or so it looks destroyed
there areas that were destroyed represent a small part of the tourism trade - most of it is on Nassau. It's still horribly tragic for them but it was mostly residential.

Castaway doesn’t sound destroyed at all per their recent statement (see above) and Nassau is not where the worst of it was.

Oh right so Nassau is not to bad that. I thought they got it bad

I'm in Scotland so don't no the area that well
