Hurricane deep discounting...

Other cruise lines appear to be deep discounting (60%+) after our terrible hurricane season. Besides the standard "Disney don't discount" (they do) any thoughts on if they will this year?

No. Some other lines offer sales like this all the time, it may have nothing to do with hurricanes at all.

People have short memories and hurricane seasons are different every year. Cruises will continue to be booked in September, most of them will go just fine and some will probably be delayed, rerouted, or cancelled. If they feel it necessary the most I would expect is a Kids Sail Free promotion, or as I call them "a sailing I would never go on." Quite unlikely, but always a possibility if rooms aren't selling.

No, I don't have any thoughts on this other than hurricane season isn't over yet.

I have a friend that has a reservation on an upcoming non-Disney cruise and all the ports on her itinerary where effected by the hurricanes. She received information that they will change the itinerary to different ports that where not effected by the hurricanes. I even looked her cruise up just to check the price and it actually had done up a few dollars (not much).

It's also like cruiseline awareness week/month or something. So many cruiselines will discount rates now in order to entice people who have never cruised before.

Disney offers discounts when sales are down. If sales are down for a given time period, they will offer discounts to get people into the rooms. The discount may be in the form of opening up IGT/OGT/VGT rooms rather than running a special, but Disney likes to fill as many rooms as possible.

I know what your talking about. My husband and my oldest son are looking at cruises this November and yes there are some really deep last minute discounts. Will dcl do this? Most likely not. They have a lot of cast members that will fill the rooms.

Why would you not go on a Kids Sail Free cruise? Just curious. :)

Well, they are filled (to the brim) with kids.

Disney no longer does the Kid's Sail Free cruises. I don't know if any other cruise line has it.

We did one of the last KSF DCL cruises, and it was a madhouse. Lots of kids who (apparently) had no parents anywhere within shouting distance. The shows were filled with kids running up and down the aisles (during performances) causing safety issues with cast members who use the aisles during performances. And you could forget about anything resembling a "quiet" dinner in the dining rooms. Kids running around (saw at least one server lose his tray of dishes trying to avoid a collision with a runaway child), dancing/playing between the tables, and NOISY!!!!!

Yeah, glad those days are gone.

Interesting topic... I have been tracking 2 upcoming cruises and the prices. One is January 2018 and the other is September 2018. I check weekly and I figured that two things would happen. 1, people would back out of the September cruise and 2, the January cruise price would go up since demand would go up on the re-book... Shockingly, the September cruise is now fuller and the subsequent price has increased (4E went up over $200 in the last two weeks), the January 2018 cruise has stayed stagnant on price while the concierge staterooms have filled up (2 weeks ago 78% of the concierge rooms were still available, now only the Royal suites are available). Yes, I was hoping for a port upgrade in January :-) So, no I don't imagine there are going to be any sales, only price increases...

That boggles my mind- especially with the awesome kids club! On our cruise recently we brought my son for Toddler Time. He was playing with a truck (one of the very few toys they had there). Two siblings (around 8& 10) came in and took toys from the toddlers. They literally ripped the truck out of my two year old's hand so I asked them where their parents were so I could talk to them. They pointed to a group of drunk adults in the Promenade Lounge. I just don't get it! If you don't intend on watching you kids why not check them into the secure clubs where they will be entertained and looked after for!! There is no additional charge!

This. I would much rather pay for my child than deal with that.

We actually did a cruise out of New York last year that went up to Canada, the next cruise was scheduled to go to the Bahamas, but due to a storm had to change itineraries up to Canada. We found out after disembarking that they had so many cancellations as a result they were offering deep discounts to anyone on our cruise that booked before disembarking. Unfortunately we didn't know about it until it was too late, but had we known, we probably would have taken an advantage of it, I mean it was something like $1,500 for four people in a Veranda cabin after all, including taxes.

So yes, there are times that cruises get discounted with Disney, but it isn't common.

I paid less than 5k twice (once 2.5k) for 11 day euro cruises. Same cruise now would be 16k+. They discount based on availability .....its just their threshold is much higher before they discount.

And if you look at the rates, odds are the other lines actually bumped the rates up before they added the discount just enough to offset the “discount”. That is how it usually goes.
I hear what you are saying however these are drastically discounted - about 500-600 less than I paid for the same itinerary several years ago.

I was on that same cruise - if we didn't have work obligations, I would have stayed onboard for the next sailing!
