Hurricane chat all weekend!!!!

Other than some water in the basement, which happens with any really heavy rain, we escaped unscathed here in NJ. The forecasts were greatly exaggerated (what else is new?).

I disagree. Have you looked at photos of some areas? They've been devastated by flooding. Chunks of boardwalks removed, etc.

I live on the border of MA/NH not much happened here but I do have some friends and family with out power and a tree fell on an apartment building but nobody was hurt thankful for that.

Oh, I realize some areas were hit hard. I was strictly referring to our immediate area. We are 60 miles from the shore. Around here, it was no worse than any bad rain storm. Someone on another board (who lives closer to the shore) said that the Noreasters do more damage than this storm did. It all depends where you happened to be. Thankfully, we are in an area that was relatively unscathed.

Trying to get more information on the current boil water advisory issued for parts of new jersey. does anyone know what areas..I do not have access to nj12 news

Never lost power at our house in Plymouth, but lots of our neighbors are out. It looks like a long restoration effort.

Here you go...

Municipalities that have instituted boil water orders, so far, include Florham Park, Irvington, Maplewood, Millburn, Short Hills, Springfield, Summit, and West Orange, which are all part of the New Jersey American Water Company's Short Hills system. Boil water orders also are in effect for Hightstown, Rockaway Township, and South Amboy, and more are likely.

Great idea! I live in Norwalk, CT and we had a rough night. I was up all night because my trees were doing a dance all night long. My goodness the wind was howling! By morning, we had several trees down on my neighbors property but my property was fine save fore a bunch of leaves and branches. We have had no power since about 3:00am. No generator but we have a cooler with plenty of milk, cold cuts, and ice. My wife is reading, I am on the ipad, and my son is with the dogs. Is this, aside from the iPad, what people did during colonial times? In a way, it is kind of cool and laid back......

In my town, there are thousands of people without power. Most of my family and friends(who are spread out) have no power. Norwalk is on Long Island sound so there is flooding and those people were forced to evacuate. I am a teacher and students were to return tomorrow but now they closed all schools on Monday. New York City subways closed (may be open now) but airports opening at 6am - just heard it on wcbs 880.

I was wondering what would have happened if we got this hurricane in it's full glory. We got hit at a cat1 and look at the damage! We are so vulnerable up here....

Hope any other posters in the affected areas find themselves well. I hope we all get our power back. As I type this, the wind is picking up again...very weird looking clouds. When is my next Disney trip again? ;)

Be well all! Great to have this community of people to share experiences with. Funny twist to this is that my mother, who lives right next door, has been in Orlando all week and left at 4:00am from Orlando by car. I tried to get her to stay but she was with a friend that has to be on a flight from JFK tomorrow (yea right, that'll happen!). So needless to say, I am not happy that she's on the road. Wow, just hear on the radio that 1 million people without power in New Jersey. My in-laws are down in the Cherry Hill area and they have power. I apologize for babbling on and on....

Be well everyone.

We live in the Cherry Hill area (Medford actually)- power is spotty, but I believe mostly back on for anyone who lost it. We never did, our best friends did for about 18 hours (same town).
We are still getting texts from our local PD- state of emergency still in effect- trees are still going down with the winds, and flooding on many roads. No one is supposed to be out until tomorrow.

We were VERY prepared- ice in the coolers, water in every container we own almost, plenty of food we could eat without cooking if we lost power.
I am very grateful we did not need it- but would do it all again.

I look forward to sleeping in my bed tonight and not on the hard basement floor-which is where I spent last night due to the tornado warnings. :scared1: THAT freaks me out way more than a hurricane!

Glad most everyone came through this with minimal damage.

You know... there's another storm coming off the coast of Africa right now- they're already saying the "K" storm looks like Irene... :rolleyes1
Keep all that non-perishable food handy - we may not be done yet folks!

Tell me about it. I slept on the floor inside my walk-in closet. Still sore!

Folks in Florida, Texas, the Gulf Coast and the Carolinas are used to this.

The weather folks have just come down off a "weather high" with lots of airtime and 24 hour coverage.

Without something scary to talk about, they are again reduced to telling us that it's going to be hot and will probably rain.

It's hard to put your rain slicker away after a big storm.

(I apologize to all of our meteorologist listeners in advance)

Oh I know- they were in all their glory this past week. First an earthquake then right into non-stop Irene coverage.
I really feel bad for the rest of the country. Here we are hogging all the news like no one else exists. :sad2:

It's like this with the snow storms too. The media can't wait to stick another reporter out in the elements despite all logic.
