Hi Folks,

We have a chat room set up for our ABD trips that's only used once in a while.

I was thinking that it might be a good idea to use that room as an open Chat Forum for folks dealing with Irene.

If you have power and want to check in, please stop by. The Chat area can be accessed by clicking the link at the top of the page or by following this link:

http://host7150.123flashchat.com/disboards/

Please keep in mind that the top chat room on this list has a schedule and might be used by other folks.

The ABD Chat room has nothing scheduled this weekend.

If you decide to stop in and there is no one in the room at that time, you can still post a message telling us what area you are in and what conditions are like. This will also gives us all a chance to know you are ok.

Your message will stay there even after you leave the chat room.

Often times during a hurricane, phone lines are jammed or non-existent.

If you would like us to call someone and let them know you are ok....just ask. I'm sure someone will offer to help.

I cant promise that I will be there all weekend, but I will try and stop in frequently.

I hope Monday morning this all looks silly because NOTHING happened and no one is hurt or inconvenienced.

Keeping fingers crossed.

What a great idea. I'm watching CNN right now and thinking of everyone I know now (mostly from the DIS) who live on the Eastern seaboard. I hope it turns into a lot of NOTHING for everyone too. :grouphug:

Thanks so much. I've been through many hurricanes, but this one is really has me nervous...they say that it's been 30 years since Va Beach has taken a direct hit....I'm prepared....just have to wait it out. My prayers go out to everyone in Irene's path.

Great idea.

NJ Governor Christie said to expect to be without power for five days. Not sure if we'll be able to check in here or not, but I will if we do have power.

Stay safe all. Things are just starting up. It's dark and eerie.

Thinking about everyone in the path of the hurricane. It is nerve wracking just sitting and waiting. Please know we are here for you. Stay safe!!

Watching the coverage on TV and hoping our DIS friends in the mid-Atlantic area are all safe.

Up here (Plymouth, MA) its looking like the storm will be far enough west of us to avoid the more serious wind damage, but there will be a strong storm surge along the coast.

I am hunkered down at work. Should be pretty quiet on the veterinary front.

Looks like the storm path is closer to you than us Scott. Hope the dogs are safe as well.

Great idea! I've been following the coverage on CNN and my heart goes out to everyone affected by Irene.

So far steady, with bands of heavy, rain and light wind here. Lost power, but got it back 30 minutes later. Still 5-6 hours away from the heart of it all starting.

Please say a prayer we don't lose power. Our sump pump started working around 4 am and if we lose power it won't be pretty.

Other than some water in the basement, which happens with any really heavy rain, we escaped unscathed here in NJ. The forecasts were greatly exaggerated (what else is new?).

Better to be safe than sorry. If they had underplayed this storm and it intensified people would have been very upset.

Yep. I'm not sorry we did all the prep work yesterday. If nothing else, it was an adventure and got a bunch of stuff cleaned up in the process. There will be a lot of junk going out in the trash this week.

Irene is being called a tropical storm now. I'm looking out at some steady rain and the wind has just picked up - we're on the NW edge of Irene (if I drive to Rochester I'd be out of the path completely). Honestly, it rained harder in WDW when we were there a couple of weeks ago! But I am keeping an eye on the basement and the tallest trees in our yard, just in case.

The weirdest thing was watching the clouds this morning when there was a lull in the rain - they were moving FAST - definitely could see the rotation of the storm.

There is one thing you can count on the national news people to never, ever do and that is downplay any weather-related event that happens where they live.

Better safe than sorry - always a good policy. :)

That's the truth. We were there the past 2 weeks. There was a storm last Thursday night that was outrageous. We got trapped at DTD Westside and spent nearly an hour standing in the doorway of RideMakerz waiting for it to slow down. It never did. Just kept getting worse and worse. High winds. Flooded walkways. I finally decided to make a run for it. Just going from the art gallery to my car, maybe 50 yards, I was totally soaked. And getting back to the house (Windsor Palms) was an adventure as visibility was close to zero.
