Ugh! Just one of the things I hate about Florida: the potential for devastating weather. Looks like Bonnie will miss my portion of Florida, but this Charley is headed right for me. Of course, its' path could change a little north or south, and they don't really know if the winds will intensify more than a Cat 1, but it still looks bad to me. This is what I just read online about its' projected path. Anyone planning on a WDW vacation Friday can expect to see some hurricane force winds and rain.

"After striking or brushing the Keys, Charley was forecast to continue its northward path and hit the southwestern Florida mainland early Friday with sustained wind of about 85 mph, forecaster Daniel Brown said at the hurricane center.

Charley was likely to cross central Florida, still packing hurricane-force wind, and then exit near Daytona Beach on the Atlantic Coast. Three to 6 inches of rain is expected, with locally higher amounts possible", Brown said.

:(

No kidding! My parents just moved into their new house in St. Cloud. That means they have a new homeowners policy. I hope there's no 'waiting period' or clause, in case something happens.

Stinking hurricane.. heading right toward my vacation area for the weekend... Sunset Beach, NC... drats & I thought surviving one would last me a lifetime

Yup..I am in central FL too...getting ready...not much to do but wait it out....and I live in a mobile home too...

I live less than a mile from the Gulf. Hope it changes course a little more. :(

I feel bad for all of the tourists taking a trip to WDW and being concerned about the storms. The residents that live there, I hope they are ok too. In North Carolina, many of the hotels/rentals offer trip insurance in case a hurricane approaches their coast. With Bonnie and Charley, at least there is a lot of advance warning.

Isn't one of them supposed to track up the coast? I need to go check the weather map.:(

Actually, minniepumpernickel, it looks like the East Coast is going to be getting a 1-2 punch. First, Bonnie, then about one day later, Charley follows her!!!! In fact, since I live in Charley's path I'm very wooried as to how badly the effects will be!!! :( I was watching the local news this evening and it sounded like the area might get bad enough winds to cause power outages!!! Receiving either the core of the Cat. 2 Hurricane or the bad right quadrant definitely sounds scary enough!!! Yikes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :earseek: :worried: :scared1: :scared:

That sounds scary! Stay safe!:D I hate when power outages happen, it's so hard to keep the food from spoiling.

I had planned to be on the Jersey shore, but I don't know whats going to happen there.

I just got off the phone with them. Last month a tornado dropped a tree on their roof while they were vacationing in Seattle. They just got that mess patched up (not completely fixed as the weather has not been cooperative - they are waiting until dry season to do the major repairs).

Now this!

They said Bonnie will graze them on the north, but Charley is going to be a direct hit. Luckily they are inland.

Dad has been threatening to sell for a couple years now. This may be the final straw if their doublewide survives.

My elderly folks live in Naples...6 blocks from the gulf....I am hoping the storm will hit North of them.

My inlaws just moved to NC in Elizabeth city on the lake and a few miles from the ocean they will probably move back after this. Charlie is a Cat 2 now and hitting head on florida in the PM of Friday. Heard this on the Weather Channel.

Cruise ships will alter their course and port calls based on the paths of the weather system. I would bet that ships have cancelled any stops at Jamaca or the Caymans. In addition, the ships will not dock at their home port or will leave port early if the hurricane threatens. Big ships have better chance running away from the weather than being in port.

If you are on the ship and you are suppose to debark, you get an extra day of vacation. If the Cruise line booked your air, they will get you rebooked. If it is your day of departure, contact the cruise line to get the latest info

Cruise ships are diverted to a safe course. You may not get to your original destinations, but they will find calm seas to sail in.

Now on my local news tonight I heard that the big ships in the Port of Tampa may not be able to get out and away. They usually head out to sea to avoid a threatening hurricane, but with two of them out there in the Gulf there is no safe waters for them to go to. I wonder if the Carnival ships will be affected since they are in Tampa's Port?
