The President of the American Red Cross was just on Fox news and they are asking for monetary donations rather than water, food, clothing, etc. It's too difficult for them to coordinate the receiving, storage and distribution of donated items.

You can donate to the ARC Disaster Relief Fund by calling 1 (800) HELP NOW (435-7669).

Thanks for posting. Do you by chance have an address to send the check to?

They didn't publish an address during the interviews that I saw.

I will call the ARC number and post again when I get an address.

This is also the time to donate blood if you haven't in a while.

You can find a local Red Cross agency and earmark your donation to Hurricane Charley Disaster Relief and the money will go to the appropriate fund.

Please let's keep this thread at the top. I remember when Andrew hit and millions of pounds of clothes and other items were sent to Florida. They just didn't have the staff to sort and distribute this stuff.

Money is such a better idea...it can go to exactly what is needed. Now is not the time for people to get rid of their old "stuff."

Thanks for posting this.

I tried to call the 800 number to get more info - that number is being swamped with calls. Here are some other options for donating:

You can mail a donation to your local American Red Cross and specify National Disaster Relief Fund - Hurricane Charley.

You can also log onto www.redcross.org and follow the information to make a credit card donation.

If you want to call the 800 number, be ready to be on hold for 10 mintues and then be directed to an automated donation system.

If you donate, please do so. Many, many people are in dire need of assistance.

Thank you.

Thank you for the plug!

The American Red Cross will need alot of financial donations to help all those in need.

Yes, I remember volunteering at the fairgrounds after Andrew hit. We had to sort and box all the donated items that were to be sent down to Andrew's victims. Money is so much easier!

My company just donated $100,000 to the Red Cross for the Florida relief fund.
